sorta obesity spinoff- did anyone catch the High Fructose Corn Syrup commercial last night
first let me that is aired during the RNC
now..really???? are we really going to argue the benefits or, shall I say, detriments of hfcs in moderation, as it compares to sugar.
really...a commercial about it.
I will say the commercial was pretty funny though...but I was just at the whole thing.

I missed that - have to look it up at home (no sound at work)...
Did they really argue FOR hfcs as nutritionally beneficial?

It's kinda appropos that they would advertise during the RNC... a lot of these sugar and sugar substitutes are in bed with the FDA... which means a lot of these companies are in bed with politicians.
I will say that FRUCTOSE instead of sugar is supposed to be better for you. It is granulated like sugar, has the same caloric content, but your body metabolizes it better because it's natural fruit sugars.

fructose, as in natural sugar is better for you.
HFCS is not the same as fructose.
anyhow, I agree about it being apropos
I wouldn't have had it any other way

When I saw the ad I was . If HFCS was not in almost every product, one might be able to have it in moderation, but since it is in EVERYTHING their argument is .

Seriously, the corn farmers of america should be more concerned with creating ethynol.
They are just concerned that all this healthy eating business is affecting their bottom line.
It's pathetic.
ETA-- they should have taken the $150K+ they spent to produce the commercial, PLUS the $1MM media buy and invest in to research or create ways to more efficiently produce enthynol or other green sources of energy.

Me too. They should have a commercial about crack and how it is good for you too. The HFCS is sooooo bad for you and I believe it is why a lot of Americans are obese.

the whole point of the commercial is to get the public eating more HFCS-- because people have stopped eating it because of the latest news, scares about it being totally unhealthy.
They wouldn't be spending the money to "inform" the public that it's ok to eat, unless it was hurting their business.
I think a lot of food manufacturers are dealing with this right now. They need to figure out how to take the bad stuff out of their foods, with keeping manufacturing costs down. OR by creating new products that people won't be "afraid" to eat with healthier, more natural ingredients. This costs a lot of money-- and companies like Kraft, Frito Lay, etc. are suffering. It's really turned their business on end. Their advertising goals are to get people feeling better about "cheating" and eating their products because it's really not THAT bad-- I have worked on campaigns and have seen the creative briefs and been part of strategic discussions.
It's an unfortunate side affect that agricultural workers/farmers are taking a hit-- but there are other ways for them to make money.

Dumbest commercial I've seen in a loooong time. It's in EVERYTHING and it's always the 2nd ingredient...makes you wonder what's at stake if people tried to avoid it.

Agreed. That is the only reason they had to have a commercial. Otherwise, why bother?
I totally missed that one last night. Thanks for the link to it!
