Sorta spin off to what you should know how to do
I realize I am a grown woman in my 40's asking this question...but what is the difference between a Duvet and a comforter? I googled but I don't get it. Don't shame me! I was obviously not raised right!

Duvet is the cover that comforter goes inside. Some comforters are plain and people put covers on them and some are just one piece

So basically a pillow case for your comforter? If you buy a duvet, do you have to buy a comforter to go in it or is it like a quilt or bed spread on it's own?

It's like a pillow case for a comforter. I personally don't care for them as I think they get bunched up and never lay flat. But that may just be because I am domestically challenged lol.

Sorta spin off to what you should know how to do
This is embarrassing but I never knew what a charger was - you know, in a china place setting.
When I unwrapped one at my bridal shower, I was like, what is this and someone said "It's a charger."
I thought "Why does my china need to be charged?"
I still don't know why they call it a charger.
P.S. I just (16 years later) ended up throwing them all out. They were UGLY!

Re: Sorta spin off to what you should know how to do
A charger is a larger plate that can be used a few ways. 1 if you have a Salad course, you place the charger under it as if it were a placemat. So you would have the cloth table cloth, then the charger, then the salad plate. Then when you clean up take both plates, and replace with the dinner plate. Or 2. You can place the cloth table cloth, charger, doily, dinner plate, doily, salad plate. It is used for formal service. You can also use them 3. To decorate. Some people like to have what looks like a set table at the holidays without leaving the regular plates to get dusty. So you could set out the charger as a plate. With a cloth napkin in a festive napkin holder on top. I don't have nor do I use chargers, but thank you for attending my TED talk.

Yes exactly. I've never owned one. I just buy regular comforters

Yup a pillowcase for your comforter pretty much explains it best.
I use a duvet because I have dogs that shed and lay on my bed. If I had to wash my king comforter every week, that would be a big pain in the ass. Washing the duvet is way easier (it’s thin like a sheet - not a fancy heavy quilt type)

My friend bought me 2 chargers that had orange trim with blue armadillo on them. ( years ago- before I was engaged.) I didn't know at the time what charger were- I use them as platters But now. knowing that they are formal, it cracks me up that someone made formal armadillo chargers.
Re Duvets, my old one bunched up. but my new cover & comforter don't. It depends on how they are constructed. I didn't know what they were either until college. I have boarding school educated, debutant friend, who knows all about these things. Her duvet was just a solid jersey, but I used to help her put it back not he comforter when she did laundry. That was too much effort for college.

I like duvets cause it changes the look of the bedroom without spending too much money. I have 2 and use one fall/winter and spring/summer. So much easier to wash compared to a comforter.

Some people are very eclectic and love decorating with the weirder the better chargers. Others are more thematic I.e. they only decorate with elephants.

Umm, we might need another spin off. The Birdcage is part of a long list of things I haven't seen. . .

No, you do not have to put a comforter in a duvet. Duvets usually come with a zipper or buttons at one end to put a comforter in. Some duvets have pretty designs but they're thin-like, not much of a blanket sorta speak.
Our dog likes to lay on our bed so we have an "unfilled" duvet on our bed so its easier to wash than washing a thicker comforter in the machine every so often.

I also didnt know what they were until this past December. And I'm in my 40's...... And it's only because I attended dinner at a friend's house who had them. We were all cleaning up the table; and she said, I just need the chargers. I said what the fk is a charger....? Now I know....
They seem to be a waste if you ask me. Just another thing to put in the china closet.....

Sorta spin off to what you should know how to do
I have both chargers and duvet covers and lest you think I’m fancy there is a guaranteed stream of expletives out of my mouth every time I wash the duvet covers and have to put the duvet back in.
