I took the advice of the Baby Bargains book and went with a foam mattress by Colgate.

We asked for help at BBB...lady recommended most expensive, we said it was too much $, she went with 2nd most expensive - still too much $, then we asked what was next in line and we went with that one...I believe it was $199.

I browsed Baby Bargins to get an education (on # of coils, etc) and then read reviews on the BRU website.

I researched using Baby Bargain Book to get information and top brands between a coil and foam mattress. Then when we registered at Buy Buy Baby I spoke with 2 separate sales people on 2 separate trips and chose what I felt was the best choice for us with all that information.

We bought based on the size. I noticed that "standard" mattresses vary by a few inches, and that $$$ mattress may be smaller than your crib, and leave a gap around the edges. DC will literally fall asleep on a pile of LEGOS, so we bought based on safety, not comfort.

DH is in the mattress field. I let him choose it. Chat Icon

He said stay away from any of the "memory foam" type mattresses because they're known to release toxic chemicals and got DD a regular firm foam mattress that was correctly sized. He said babies really don't need coils, they don't really have the weight for it to make a difference, it just should be super firm

We chose the mattress with the most number of coils. The firmer, the better!

We got the crib at Bellini and the mattress that went with it seemed to be good quality. So we went with that. It's held up really well.

I used the Baby Bargains book and decided I was going to get a foam mattress. I ended up getting one through Behr's where we got our furniture. We got a discount on one.

Same here. DD has used it for 2 years now & I love it. It's firm and fits snug against the crib but so light which makes changing the sheets a breeze. DD will be moving to a big girl bed when the baby gets here so our new DC will use it next. It's in great shape.
