South Beach Hotels - Doubletree, Avalon...

Anyone have any reviews on these two hotels?

Going to a bachelorette party in June with girlfriends...staying at the Avalon for 3 days.

Going to my cousins wedding in April with family and staying at the Doubletree Surfcomber for a week.

I've never stayed at a hotel in South Beach, only been there for a day when I was in Ft Lauderdale.

Avalon is great for it's location, but most of those boutique hotels have crappy rooms, unless you can afford $$$$$. It's at the end of the strip, so you have a good starting point. I stayed there 15 years ago for spring break and checked out their rooms last November, I think they applied a fresh coat of paint!

There is decent people watching if you want to sit at the bar or steps for cocktails and app's. (bit pricey, if I remember). Just make sure you check out the room first and request a change immediately, if necessary. Be nice, but persistent; sometimes a different person at the desk will bring totally different response; they like to purvey the "snob thang" but I found a bit of sweetness & flirting is effective.

I don't have any info on Doubletree.
