South merrick but I don't really know why
I guess it just seems like it's more centrally located, Oceanside is a little more out of the way because it's further from a parkway but it really depends what you want to be near. Both are good choices.

thanks ladies...I grew up Oceanside and we live there now, so I know it really well, but have a few friends that moved from Oceanside to s. merrick and they love it, but I just don't know too much about it...but DH likes some houses there off of MLS

south merrick. i grew up in seaford and work in oceanside. i think part of it for me is location. merrick is so convenient to wantagh parkway and the meadowbrook. also, great SD and a really residential, cozy neighborhood. Also the water!!

I grew up in Oceanside but had a lot of friends who grew up in south merrick/bellmore so I was there often and for me Id rather live in Oceanside than south merrick. Oceanside has a good school distirct also and Ive always said that seeing what I saw and heard from kids who went to Kennedy High School (the ridiculous materialism, keeping up with the Jones's, etc) I would not want to live there and send my kids to that high school. I know that the materialism exists elsewhere, its just that its VERY prevelant there, the majority rather than just a small piece of a bigger picture.

thanks, my DH went to a school like that growing up and his famiy didn't have money and I think it really was hard for him..so thats a huge thing...thx!!!

I gew up in South Merrick and went to Kennedy. Not everyone is like that - I def wasn't and def had my share of friends. I mean it definitely is materialistic and could be much worse now but it's a great school district and the town itself is really nice and friendly. I would love to live there again. My cousins live in Oceanside and from what I'm told the school district isn't as good.

i grew up in Merrick, well-- moved there in 9th grade, so I went to HS there.
As you know, my mom was also a teacher at Oceanside HS.
From the things she would tell me about what was offered at her school-- I personally felt that the schools might have been better there. I know both are good school districts.
Oceanside is def more isolated, whereas Merrick is more convenient to other locales in LI. But if you are a beach person-- it's closer to that whole "LI beachy" lifestyle.
Merrick definitely has the materialism factor over Oceanside I think-- but, Merrick is also more diverse vs let's say, Roslyn IMO.
If I had to choose b/t the two towns-- I would say Merrick just because I think that is where *I* would choose based on a variety of different reasons.
