I would take the ferry out of Bayshore, Sayville, or Patchogue over to Fire Island.

Or take the ferry from Bay Shore - if you don't mind a crowded beach, you can go to Ocean Beach. If you prefer fewer people, you can go to Seaview but still walk over to OB for the good stuff like restaurants and ice cream shop and everything else.
eta take a cab or get dropped off for the ferry. there's no parking this weekend i'm sure.
