South shore Suffolk towns

Which south shore towns do you like the best? I need something close to Southside hospital. We were thinking of Oakdale, Bayport, Blue Point, or Sayville. Any opinions on these areas?

One thing you should be aware of is that in areas close to the water.. usually South of Montauk is flooding and homeowners insurance. My parents live across the street from the water and have no flooding problems, 2 blocks over they do. Also, it can be difficult and expensive to get flood insurance.

I grew up in Sayville and love it. We bought our house in Blue Point but were really only going to consider houses in Oakdale, Sayville, Bayport, Blue Point anyway. We love this area and will never leave.

Edited to add: Homeowners is really difficult to get in certain areas- as the poster above stated- we almost cpouldn't get it b/c of our proximity to the water.

I lived in Oakdale for ten years, I loved it there. People are nice, some of the shopping areas were recently improved. My son graduated from Connetquot in 2005.
Sayville is great & I really like East Islip too.

We live in Lindenhurst....its not too far from Southside (that's where I delivered)...maybe 25 minutes. Great town, very family oriented, old-school main street in town

Re: South shore Suffolk towns

I grew up in Islip, which is very close to Southside, but we just bought a home in Sayville and love it.

School district is great here, as is Bayport/Blue Point, although I wouldn't say that Blue Point is close to Southside.

We were basically looking in the same towns, and ultimately landed in Sayville b/c we love Main St, the shopping, restaurants, ferrys, reputation.

Good luck!

Re: South shore Suffolk towns

I live in Sayville and I absolutely love it. It has a strong community heart, a wonderful downtown area and a great school district that invites, encourages and appreciates parent participation. They have a lot of great activities and festivals going on - especially in the summer.

As others have said - homeowners can be difficult in certain areas. My girlfriend lives south of Montauk in W. Sayville on Atlantic. You can see the bay from her bedroom - but she didn't need to get flood insurance. But another friend (2-3 houses down) DID need it. It's just something to consider. I live North of Middle so I didn't have any worries.

Good luck in your search!
