Speaking of government jobs
Which level of government job is considered "best" to be employed by in terms of salary, pension, health benefits (both cost/deductible and actual coverage/copays), number of vacation days, OT, other benefits, etc.
I know it can vary based on field, agency, or position level overall but I just mean in general terms. For example a mid-career level administrative or financial position across the board. Which level of government is better to work for? Federal, state, local (county, or city)? I know NYC employee health benefits/plans are some of the best. I think I also heard once that although state pension percentage of salary was higher than federal government pension, the actual pension of retired federal employees (when they calculated the actual pension formula % x highest salary and years of service) was higher thereby making the overall pension more valuable at federal level because the federal salary was higher than state for similar position. I could totally be wrong about that as it was a long time ago that I heard that. Anyone have any knowledge on this topic?

My husband is federal, I’m state. Two totally different fields, unions and contract and formulas for pension. It will all depend on our final salaries closer to retirement. For example, I’m state and let’s say I retire with my highest 3 year consecutive salary at 100k, I would have about 65k a year pension. Also depends on your age at retirement. So many factors play into it
