special ed teachers - help-

so Ive mentioned my sister being a huge advocate for her daughter.

My sister has educated herself through SEPTA and going to conferences on her own, reading books, etc. It's amazing how much she knows and how passionate she is.

I think (I KNOW) she would LOVE taking a Special Ed course, but she doesnt want to get a degree (that I know of ).

i want to do this as a bday present.

Are there any teacher's centers or small local schools in queens where they offer
classes for teachers (would non-teachers be allowed to go?)

Ive heard classmates mention a few places in Queens, but I cant remember offhand.

suggestions ? I thought of a college course non-matric, but dont know if I can register her without telling her.

that's great! Try out the Dellecave Institute in Bohemia.

they do professional development for teachers. I don't know if they take non-teachers, but i don't see why not. she can take the course for graduate credit or just for in-service credit (which means no college credit and it's cheaper).

you can peruse through the courses on-line. they have weekend and afternoon/evening options. they are based in Bohemia but have a few other locations on the Island, mainly in Suffolk.
