special education public school teachers
how would you answer the following questions if you were interviewing for a public school teaching position:
1. how would you use the teaching assistants in your classroom?
2. how would you handle it if a parent asked for after school services but the district doesn't provide?
3. what would you say to the parent who expects her child will be able to go to college?
thanks!!

1. I would ask if the TA is a certified teacher or not. (my district has certified teachers as TA's, but a person can become a TA through a certificate program without being a teacher). If the TA is a teacher I would use their training to provide direct instruction- small group, individual or whole class.
2 I would discuss with them what we are currently providing and determine where the parent finds a hole in the current implementation of the IEP. If I can show the parent that the current program is meeting the needs, then I would try to make that point. If the parent persisted, I might buy time and let them know I would discuss it with other team members. At that point I might be directed to encourage the parent to call a CSE to further discuss her concerns about the current services.
3. I can't answer number three from experience since I teach elementary. I am not sure how I would answer that.
