Spent 7 hours in ER - Good News/Bad News (9/4 UPDATE)
So my chest pains and breathing issues I've been having, I finally called my OB. They sent me to the ER to rule out a puliminary embalism (SPELLING??) that can happen with a C/S (clot in the lungs)
Chest Xrays and Cat Scan, 7 hours later and Im cleared.... sorta (thats the good news)
Bad news - No nursing for 48hours
Bad news - After 7 freaking hours of being in the ER they took my blood pressure just before releasing me and guess what? Its high. Its been high since I gave birth. I TOLD them this but no one really listened because they wanted to rule out the clot.
So now I have to find a doctor tomorrow. I don't see a General Practioner because I don't normally get sick. Ugh. Wish they had told me this earlier since I was in the ER from 11am to 7pm and I could have made the appt.!
Ugh!
Now I have to go tomorrow to find someone and start this process all over again!
One doc (OB) said stay overnight for observation
The Other doc (hospital assigned GP) said go home and see a regular doc tomorrow.
So what do you do? I came home. Havent seen my baby girl all day and there's nothing they can find wrong with my chest or heart, but something's wrong with my blood pressure.
So, just like today, Grandpa gets to spend the whole day with Arianna.
Thank GOD she's ok with having formula Thank GOD I rented the pump so I can keep up my milk and relieve myself even if I can't let her eat it.
All this drama....
UPDATE 9/4: So Yesterday went to see the GP. She was more than surprised that my OB didnt really seem concerned about my BP. I was given a 24hr monitor to check my BP. Also, my CAT was NOT clean. I have a possible clot in my uterus and also found out I have a scar in my lungs???? (news to me) which is most likely a result from 9/11 but there was no way to tell back then.
GP sent me to the OB because she felt a bubble above my incision.
OB did not seem concerned at all! This is NOT my normal OB this is the doc who did deliver Arianna tho.
So.. today When back to see the results of the 24hr monitor. NOT GOOD!
I have hypertension (high blood pressure).
So with the medication I'm going to have to take..
No more breastfeeding, period
So today at 5pm my 48hr restriction from the CAT is done and I can breast feed, but I can't as of tomorrow morning when I start taking the meds.. but I STILL have to pump to relieve engorgement.
What a nightmare!

Random question, but did you have a c section? I did and the drugs they prescribed me for after I left the hospital gave me major chest and breathing problems. I finally read the sheet that came with it and it was one of the side effects. I stopped immediately but i could bearly breathe for 2 weeks following.

Yes I had a C/S
We read the side effects on the painkillers they sent me home with
#1 I never took them as prescribed, just maybe once a day at most. #2 I stopped taking them all together when i saw chest pain, breathing and lack of appetite were all side effects
So I've been drug-free for a few days and still have the pain.
And it doesnt explain my blood pressure. Apparently nothing does. All the nurses to see it sorta freak out.
*shrug* Im not a doctor. But I wish one of them would figure it out already!

Re: Spent 7 hours in ER - Good News/Bad News
I"m so sorry that this is happening it is scary and very hard when you have a newborn at home.
Did you have preeclampsia? They should have checked your BP when you left the hospital if you did and it should have been one of the first things they checked when you went to the ER although it is good that they ruled out the PE. I'm sorry. I had great BP my entire pregnancy until I went into labor then bam - my BP skyrocketed. I had BP issues for about 2 weeks (which I was told often happens) and they monitored me and gave me meds and 2 weeks later - it just went back to normal and stayed that way.

So sorry.
I too had problems after my c-section. After being sent home I was back in the hospital 48 hours later and stayed there for another 5 days. My BP had soared. It's one of the side effects of the spinal. Did you have one of those?
I hope you're feeling better!

Re: Spent 7 hours in ER - Good News/Bad News
I am surprised they told you to follow up with a regular GP when this is most likely a post partum issue of some sort. I developed Pre-eclampsia AFTER delivering. I was in the hospital for a few extra days and was put on mag sulfate. I was released only to later be put back in the hospital because my bp was so high.
You should definitely go to your OB to check whether it could be pre-e. It is something that can be dangerous and needs to be closely monitored and treated.

I agree. I'm suprised they didn't rule it out in the ER knowing you recently delivered. A simple set of blood tests could have ruled this out. Pre-eclampsia can develop up to 6wks after you deliver.

OMG! THat's a big deal! DD's godmother has hypertension so I know a little about it. She's lived with it for the past 6 years and has it totally under control now, but I know she has taken a boatload of meds to get to this point.

I'm so sorry you had to go through all of this as a new mom. If BFing is really important to you I would talk to your OB about any meds that might be an option so that you can BF. There are a lot of women who take BP meds while pregnant.

Definately talk about an alternative. The doctors told me to stop BF while I went back into the hospital with high BP, among other things. I told them I was BF and that was that. Lo and behold, they had a few different meds for me to choose from that I could still BF with. Always fight!
