Sperm meeting the egg question...
What do would you think is the problem?
I had an HSG, tubes are clear. Do you think that the sperm is making it up through the tubes and just not making it to the egg somehow? I'm not exactly sure if the sperm is missing the opening to the tube? Even with optimum CM every month, clear tubes, etc., I'm just trying to figure out what's going wrong if it's in the "traveling" part of the journey, or if it's just not penetrating the egg, etc.

With me... I really honestly think it was a problem with travel... the problem is, you can never really "tell" and thus, unexplained infertility.
My RE had mentioned early on that you can have scarring that prevents your eggs from reaching your fallopian tubes (they normally get "swept" in). The scarring was unlikely in my case (no past surgeries/pregnancies), but he mentioned it because one of my ovaries was in a funny position.
Either way, the process is pretty identical.

I ask myself this question every month for the past 2 years
I wish I knew what's going on in there??? What are they doing? Where are they going?

Re: Sperm meeting the egg question...
I was thinking about this on my drive to work this morning. You would think with that many sperm, one would be able to get the job done!
From what I remember, there could be numerous reasons, the sperm don't make it to the egg or the egg isn't good or they can't fertilize it. A lot of the sperm die before they ever make it, some go to the wrong tube, some fight each other or go in circles, some go through the entire tube and never find the egg. And then there could be implantation issues of the fertilized egg.
It really is a miracle that is happens at all!

I believe you have said in the past that you suffer from Endometriosis. That in itself is a cause of infertility.
Here is a link that explains the many reasons why endo can prevent a pregnancy.

Re: Sperm meeting the egg question...
I always kind of thought of it in terms of how many little things need to go right to get pg....youhave to release a healthy egg, the sperm has to get to the egg, it needs to fertilize the egg, then the egg needs to implant and grow. That's a ton of little things that need to go exactly right for it to work. It really is amazing to think about!
