spilling when drining from sippy cup

Ds will drink from a sippy cup, but he takes a bunch in his mouth, drinks some, and then lets the rest dribble out of his mouth. I have only been giving him water because I don't want to have to change his shirt a million times a day. Did anyone else's DC do this? And did they stop on their own?

Yep, Steven does this. I also got him the sippy with the straw. He doesn't get nearly as messy with that one.

Hannah does this too. She's always wet!! I tried the straw cup, but she didn't really get into it. She likes to throw her head back and chug. She's so gracefulChat Icon

I have one with the straw and he does the same thing. He just takes too much in his mouth to swallow. I want to get him off the bottle, but i don't want him soaked all day.

It's a phase. They like how it feels. Ava grew out of it in a couple of months when she got bored of it.

Did you just let her dribble formula/milk all over herself? Or did you stick with the bottle until she was able to handle the sippy better?

Which sippy cup has a straw that you recomment? I'd like to try one with DD, she likes to 'blow bubbles' in her Dr Brown's bottles, maybe she'd do well with this :) sorry to go off topic, just curious. Thanks!

DS did this too and I tried so many cups. Finally I caved and added some juice to the water and it stopped. Even now if I give him water he will have a few sips then he starts paying and thinks it is funny.

Re: spilling when drining from sippy cup

yup DD has the nuby with the straw and she lets the exess dribble right out and her shirt is always wet, I dont know what to do. that is her means of fluoride( not giving it to her in vitamin) in her water so I have to give it to her.

If that's just what he does I don't know if the straw will help. Luca does it no matter what cup I give him- we've tried a bunch, including the straws.
