spin-off of bedroom door open or closed - am i the only one who thinks this way?

At night both DS' door and our bedroom door is left ajar. I even put an old t-shirt on our floor to make sure our door doesn't accidentally close (not that i know what could possibly make it close, a ghost LOL)

According to the fire safety info, bedroom doors should be kept closed in case of a fire, I guess to protect you. But I always think, what if the fire is ACTUALLY IN DS' room, I need to be able to smell the smoke!

So, am I the only one who thinks this way? DH swears I've lost my mind sometimes Chat Icon

Never thought of it that way. There's smoke dectors right outside of DS's room for that reason.
I do keep both our door and DS's door closed every night.

Re: spin-off of bedroom door open or closed - am i the only one who thinks this way?

I keep our door open at night - for my insane reasons is that I need to be able to get to the kids room in nanoseconds if they were to need me- I am weird I know but I also worry about someone getting into the house and taking the kids and somehow if the door is open I would hear / see them.

I just dont feel comfortable having our door closed even though the kids are just across the hallway.

You've just given me another reason to keep my door open, intruders. I completely understand you. Chat Icon

I am normally such a laid back mom...but this is the way I think too!

I want my dog to have access to DS's room because I figure I might sleep through someone entering my house but my dog wont!

in the winter it has to be kept open b/c the thermostat is right outside in the hallway. if the doors are kept closed, the cold are doesnt escape to trigger the thermostat to turn the heat on. in the summer, its mostly closed.

we have a smoke alarm in DS room.

I do the same thing as the OP. We have one of those foam finger guards on the door and the door gets closed up to that guard so its open about 2"

I always keep both doors wide open bc I like to be able to hear everything that goes on in my sons room (I have a monitor too). I also have some crazy fears!! Lastly, I don't like keepiong the doors shut at night bc I feel like it gets too dry in the rooms then (I also have a humidifier). My sons rooom is also right next to mine and I love that our house is lik this..I like being close to him at nightChat Icon

I know they're supposed to be closed, but if we close his, it either gets steaming hot or really cold in his room. It is usually fine for naps, but not the entire night.

We keep both doors for the boy's rooms closed but ours open. Really...we do it to keep out as much noise as possible so they sleep. Chat Icon

The baby has a fire detector in his room and the older one has one outside his room.

All of our bedroom doors are open at night. I would NEVER be able to sleep if the doors were closed. We have hard-wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in every bedroom.

This is EXACTLY why I keep my door and the kids doors open. I am so glad I'm not the only one. My DH always wants to close all the doors, but I am so not comfortable with that. I need to be available to and for my kids at all times! Chat Icon

Our door is open and DS's is closed...and the only reason ours is open is for the dog and cat to be able to come in and out of bedChat Icon

Re: spin-off of bedroom door open or closed - am i the only one who thinks this way?

We have smoke detectors in each bedroom, and they are all wired together, so we'll definitely hear it in our room.

I couldn't sleep right with their doors OPEN, since i know about the fire dangers by leaving it open.

They also have fire escape ladders in each of their rooms, and I've shown DS how to use it.

Both my bedroom door and my DD's bedroom door is open at night. If they weren't those 2 rooms would be ice boxes in the morning, the are always the coldest rooms in the house as it is. I honestly never considered a fire but even so, I will still keep the bedroom doors open.
