Spin-off to booster seat question . . .
How long do kids have to ride in car seats/booster seats? Hearing that seats go up to like 70lbs is making me wonder and get kinda nervous lol . . . Do like 10-year-olds have to ride in booster seats now? If so, how do families with more than 2 kids ever fit all their kids in the car together? Even in SUV's I can't picture more than 2 car seats fitting in next to each other. Do older kids really comply with this? I'm sorry if these are ridiculous questions but my DD is an infant and I'm new to all this lol.

Legally in NYS until their 8th birthday earlier if they are 4'9" or over 100lbs.
Ideally, they should ride in a booster until they properly fit in an adult seat belt. http://www.carseat.org/Boosters/630.htm
You can get 3 seats across in a small car like a Civic or Corolla if you get the right seats.

Re: Spin-off to booster seat question . . .
A child of age 4, 5, 6 or 7, must use a booster seat with lap and shoulder belt or a child safety seat (The child and safety restraint system must meet the height and weight recommendations of the restraint manufacturer.)
Exception: A child more than four feet nine inches tall or more than 100 pounds is allowed to use a seat belt that has both a lap belt and a shoulder harness. To use the seat belt, the child must be able to sit straight up against the vehicle's seat back with his or her knees bent comfortably over the edge of the seat. The lap belt should be placed low and tight across the upper thighs; the shoulder belt should rest tightly but comfortably across the child's chest and shoulder (collar bone) without touching the throat. If the seat belt does not fit properly, the child should use a booster seat with a lap and shoulder belt.

Re: Spin-off to booster seat question . . .
4foot 9inch is the magic number hahah even AJ knows this from all the Cinderella commercials related to it. Until then they need to be in a booster.
Now being that I'm only 5foot 1 (and a half dang it) I see this as a problem. I didn't go past 4ft 9in until I was nearly in HS
ha! So I have a feeling 8yrs will be the max for her.
