Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
I'm just starting to think of take home outfits for Is it better to have a two piece outfit so that you can fold the pants down under the belly button, since they still have part of the cord attached? Is a one piece okay, or will that irritate the belly?
I'm so confused!
Also.. where has everyone found their take home outfits? I need something warm since I'm due the beginning of February.
TIA!

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
honestly--- no clue, but when I did my layette all of the "take-home" outfits and bris outfits for that matter were two piece kimono style. If we have a boy, the take home outfit will double as his snipping suit!

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
my sil is having this same issue/question....
her solution was the bundleme and a long sleeved take home outfit. i'm not sure if it's one piece or 2. i will make a point of asking this at the classes we take as we get closer...(not that it helps you now - sorry)...

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
to be honest i HATED the t-shirts my DS wore when he was a newborn. they always rode up his little belly so i was afraid he was cold!
keep in mind that the unbilical cord stump has no nerves in it, so a onesie won't "irritate" the baby around that area the way you might think. all it could possibly do is rub aganst the stump and make it bleed a little - which happened even when DS was wearing a t-shirt.
you will be careful when handling your DD no matter what, i think it's okay to put her in a one-piece outfit or something with a onesie.

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
I dont think it matters. My DS wore a one peice outfit with a onesie underneath it. He has been wearing onesies & one piece outfits everyday since he has been home. His cord has been fine.

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
I'm going with a one piece because I don't like the idea of the shirt pulling up and exposing the baby's belly to cold.
I don't think the one piece will irritate his/her umbilical cord

don't know where your SIL lives, but most hospitals will not let you leave the hospital with anything in the carseat--that includes the bundle me. it is considered unsafe (although i personally do use one and have--lite and regular--since DS was born, we knew not to bring it to the hospital)

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
My dds take home outfit was a one piece and I put a t-shirt onesie under that. My thought was on it.. that one piece wouldnt have any elastic around the waist so didnt have to worry about that rubbing into the umbilical cord. I havent started looking yet.. going to start after christms b/c we dont know gender of baby.. so this time around may be more difficult to find something we love that is also gender neutral.

my hospital told us the same at the lamaze with dd.. if we brought anything in car seat besides the original parts, like bundle me, those soft neck things that go on straps, or the head positioner or toys, they will take them away before we could leave with baby. Im going to bring a blanket to put over baby to take home, since I will be sitting in backseat on drive home anyway.

Thanks for that tip!! I live in NJ, so I don't know if they do this. But I'm definately going to ask the L&D nurse on Monday night at our childbirth class.

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
I took both girls home in one piece outfits with a long sleeve undershirt underneath. My second was born December 29th and we had no issues with the bundle me. This one we will be doing the same. Girls due soon, don't forget to bring a warm hat fot taking baby home!

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
I am no expert but my friend has a 9 week old and she says that the 2 piece outfits tend to ride up. The one piece ones seem easier when they are little. Just an FYI

We have the bundle me in the car seat and now I am thinking we should take it out for when we leave the hospital...it's just so nice to be able to keep her warm in December!

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
I got a 2 piece outfit and then a thin, but warm pram to put over it. I also had the posh pouch (similar to Bundle Me, but only goes over the carseat and not under the baby) to use for the car seat.

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
When DS was born, we got a one piece outfit from Baby Gap, It didn't irritate his stump at all. We find out the sex of this baby in 3 weeks, and than we will go shopping for an outfit. We will probably go the same route- one piece. I would check out Babies R Us, Baby Style, Gap. They all had really cute outfits when we were looking.

DD came home in a one piece. It was August so honestly for the first month she wore cute little onsies & she never seemed bothered by them.

Re: Spin-Off to Take Home Outfits
I did prefer the separate outfits because the onesie's freaked me out with the umbilical cord in the beginning.
Also, it might be a good idea to bring two outifts in two different sizes. I had no idea Alex was going to be a little peanut, at 6lbs, so she just swam in her little outfit. I had to send DH out to BRU while I was in the hospital to pick up some newborn size clothes!
