spin off to the ipad at the dinner table debate

iphones and ipads were not around when my son was little, but he's has had a DS, PSP, itouch after the age of 6 and let me tell you...

I have SUCH a hard time getting him to just "be." whenever he has to wait for anything, sitting in the car, etc.. he'll ask if he can watch tv or play with my iphone... He constantly has to do something WITH something else...

I'm constantly telling him he needs to just "be" and not being "into" anything all the time.

it's a struggle... I mean look at people on the street and waiting on line... constantly "connected" ...

That's why I've never wanted to get my DD in the habit of *needing* these things to keep quiet or be entertained. By no means do I have a problem with electronics as our house is full of them between IPads, Kindles, Nooks, Leap Pads, computers, TV's, etc. however, for us as a family I strongly believe there is a time and place for these things.

I readily admit to being addicted to my IPad and my cell and I realize that I even have a hard time putting them down. But I force myself because I know it's not really good to be so connected all the time. And truthfully, when I do put them down it is kind of nice to "just be". Chat Icon

Again, what anyone else chooses to do with their children doesn't bother me. Far be it from me to tell someone how to parent their children but for my child (and my future child) I will do what I think is best for us as a family. Chat Icon
