Spinoff - ferber method (CIO)

For those who did not do 100% cry it out, how did it work with your child...

for example, I tried CIO for only a few nights and it was VERY hard....the past few nights I have been rocking dd for about 5 minutes and then putting her down awake but VERY drowsy and it has worked fine....I do not want her to HAVE to be rocked when she is 2, or 3 so please share your experiences if you chose not to CIO

Thanks

Re: Spinoff - ferber method

I tried a modified version once for a nap and just could not do it again. I know that I didn't do it the "right" way so maybe I would have tried again for nights, but what we're doing seems to be working. DD did not sleep through the night until she was 6+ months so I was becoming desperate. She pretty much started sleeping on her own once we started giving her more food and weaned her from BF. I do however do one of the "no-no's" - I give her a bottle before bed. She gets drowsy and seems happy to get into her crib (most nights.) Lately she doesn't seem to want it though.
I think what you're doing is fine. It works now. I think it will change and she won't always need to be rocked. That's my opinion. I wouldn't stress over it.

That's what I've read. I think as they get older it's not good for their teeth. There are probably other reasons too. I follow the philosophy of doing whatever works (as long as it's not harming anyone.) Chat Icon

I know this isn't helpful but I just wanted to say that I was watching "Meet the Fockers" last night and Deniro kept talking about how he is ferberizing his grandchild-I never knew that was the CIO method. Is it bad that I am learning to parent from this movie?

I thought the issue was letting them fall asleep with a bottle in their mouth.
