We don't like soda, so we don't keep it around. Once at the airport, I tried to get DS to drink soda, b/c that's all that was available (only Burger King was open and it was a mob and they were all out of juice and milk). He calls the carbonation "spicy"

One less thing to worry about - there are plenty of other things that they like and I would like to limit!

This is so funny to me, because my sisters and I grew up calling seltzer "spicy water" Chat Icon

We do not keep soda in the house and my kids have never had anything with caffeine. I tried to offer DS Sprite once because I didn't have water with me and he hated it - said it was too sweet. I would love to keep it away from them forever but I wouldn't mind them having it at a party as long as it wasn't caffeinated.

My 5 yr old doesn't like soda at all. He has tried it but doesn't like it.....I hope to keep it that way for awhile.

He doesn't really like juice either, but will drink it here and there at parties. He would rather have water.

My 6 yr old would drink sprite all day and night if I let him. He loves it. However, unless we're having a function at the house we don't buy it, so it's not an issue at home anymore. I do however let him have it if we're out to dinner or at a bday party. My youngest has taken sips here and there but doesn't really like it. He always makes a face when he takes a sip. He sticks to water and milk. I think the only reason he will take a sip here and there is b/c he wants to be like his big bro.

Re: spinoff - Soda?

My almsot 5 yrold loves soda. I refuse to give it to him but my Mother and MIL have. DH has a sode machine and we will carbonate natural flavored waters and 'pretend' it is soda for him. At a party or something , we might give him sprite. I hate soda personally so it's rarely in our house and have turned DH onto the soda machine which has natural alternatives. Hopefully my son will grow up not liking it that much too.

DH drinks soda, I do rarely. My daughters 6 and 3 never have tried it. They never asked for or expressed interest in soda.

Re: spinoff - Soda?

My oldest started drinking soda at maybe 9. With that being said, she doesn't drink much of it. If she has 1-2 glasses a week that's it. She usually drinks water or juice.

My son is six and soda is something he drinks on holiday or at a special event. Its not part of his normal diet, he usually drinks juice or vimto (its a mixed fruit drink that comes concentrated and you dilute it in water)

Re: spinoff - Soda?

Both of my boys have soda once in a while if we're at a party or out for dinner. My 5 year old loves it, my 2 year old could care less. At home it's juice, milk and water.

Re: spinoff - Soda?

DD is almost 6 and doesn't drink soda. She doesn't like it, as a matter of fact, the only thing she really liikes is water. She used to love chocolate milk and apple juice but not any more. Sometimes I get her to drink OJ, and try to make her have a least a glass of milk. I would let her have it on occassion if she did.

Re: spinoff - Soda?

No soda, its just empty calories. If we are out they can have it, but they prefer iced tea or milk.

Re: spinoff - Soda?

Nope! NEVER! I get made fun of for it too! I am a soda addict and tell my kids constantly how bad it is. They get water and water only at home. DS1 is 4 1/2 and used to drink juice but I took all juice away a year ago, and DS2 is 2 and can't have juice or milk because it messes with him. So they both happily drink water. I always carry a bottle with me to parties, because I have learned they rarely offer anything but soda or juice.
