Spinoff: Don't drink the water
I hear that the "cancer clusters" on LI are only with towns that use well water - not towns that have water towers. Anyone know if that is true? Is there a map of the "cancer cluster?"

I just don't drink tap water-period. Sorry I don't have info on well water vs tower water.

I honestly do not know the facts, but after the scare in my neighborhood recently (tower water) with the MTBE in the water...I immediately signed up for Poland Spring home delivery.
They also mentioned on the news that ALL of LI is at risk of having MTBE in the water.
MTBE is just one of the MANY chemicals you're drinking...

I do not have well water, we are connected to Suffolk County Water Authority. Unless they use well water.

I get poland spring delivered- it $33 a month for 20 gallons and a cooler
pretty cheap if you ask me

That's what we do...soooo cheap if you consider the alternative....cancer, birth defects, etc.

my Mom loved water - until she got cancer
then she lost her taste for it completely- I like to think of it as her subconsious telling her not to drink what isn't safe

I get the individual bottled water..the 1.5 liters and the smaller ones. I don't have a spot for the water cooler although that would be cool!

Not a clue...but I guess the way I think of it is I'm at home more than I am anywhere else...I'll plan on protecting myself and family there first.
My company is saving money by no longer purchasing from Poland Spring. Now they have this huge filter contraption from one of our insureds...I've got to tell you the water tastes so "metallic" it makes me sick. I feel like my filling is melting in my mouth.

mine company switched to filtered water- and I bring poland spring from home
expect for Tea- I guess I feel like heating it makes it ok- I should proabably rethink that

I know that if it goes through the soda machine it is filtered. I use to do that for all my customers get water out of the soda machine, but most of the servers don't.

thanks for those links! Bethpage has a tower - but they have high rates, so I guess that theory is wrong.
$33 for 20 gallons seem expensive to me...I usually can find the Dannon Flouride for $1/gallon on sale - but I guess you are also paying for delivery
