Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
When did you finally switch? How did you know it was time?
DD is almost 14 months and still rear-facing. She doesn't look uncomfortable b/c she's on the smaller side. Her knees do bend slightly, but I don't believe she's uncomfortable.
Just didn't know how long people have actually gone (I know it depends on the child), and what prompted you to finally switch them.

Hey there, DD is still rear facing, but I think I'm going to have DH change it this week.
She's starting to get really antsy in the car & I think she'd be a bit better if she could see us up front.
She's 13.5 months & she's also kicking the back of the back seat.

I think Ali was about 15-16 months before we changed her. Her legs were bend a little, but not much, she seems comfortable. So we didn't change it until then.

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
We switched Lucas at 14 months. He spent a week with my SIL while we had the daycare drama and DH had to install a seat in his car but since it's not the most spacious car we had to put the seat forward facing..after that Lucas was miserable rear facing in the family car so we moved that one as well. He's much more comfortable but he's very tall to begin with.

Ale is still rear-facing. It's the safest and she is fine with it, so until she protests we aren't changing it.

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
We're still rear facing at 16 months...Cate hasn't met the weight requirement to turn the seat forward facing but my doctor cited some studies that show its best to be rear facing until age 3! I would have liked to turn her once I transfer her seat to the driver's side of the car (so the infant seat can be on the passenger side) but I am not sure that she will be able to be turned yet.

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
DD is still rear facing she will be 14 months tomorrow - I don't know what she weighs or how long she is now - but at her 12 month visit she was 20 lbs 1 oz, and 29 inches.
When I got the convertible installed safety Chris told me to try to leave her rear facing until at least 15 months if I could if not longer. He said as long as they aren't sitting completely indian style rear and they fit the seat's weight and height limit for rear facing I shouldn't rush to turn it around. He said it was better to have a minor leg injury if there was an accident rather than permanent spinal damage.
I hope to make it to 15 months but her legs are starting to get cramped but she is not protesting and I hope to get some more time out of it- so we shall see.

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
We switched DS at 15 months old, not because he was too big, he still fit fine, but he seemed to really hate facing away from us. Now that he is foward facing its much easier to reach him from the passenger seat.
He seems to like it so much bette rbecasue he has more to look at instead of the back of the seat KWIM

I just switched him today as you know!
He is really big - and very tall - and he was def. uncomfortable and did not like driving in the car anymore.
If he was not so big and tall I would have kept him rear facing for as long as possible since it is the safest!

16.5 months and she is still rear facing. She's short (not even 30") and about 24.5 lbs. You can only keep them rear facing up until the seat limit..many are only 30lbs, 35lbs is the max I've seen (Britax and Cosco come to mind)

I think DD was over 2 before we turned her around. Rear facing is safest, that's enough for me.

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
i switched DS this week (he turned 1 on 8/10). he is about 27 lbs/33" tall though and his feet just looked so uncomfortable rear-facing, otherwise i would have kept him RF longer. ive heard that the longer they are RF the better (ie: safer)...

Thanks for the replies. I definitely have no plans to switch DD anytime soon, just didn't know how you finally could tell they needed to be switched.

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
i still have DS rear-facing --- and he was 27 lbs/32 inches a few weeks ago. He doesn't look uncomfortable so I'll keep him there for the time being as long as he is happy.

We switched around 15 months. She never seemed uncomfortable, but her long legs started to seem a bit cramped.

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
DD is still rear-facing at 13 1/2 months. Don't know when I'll be switching her, but she seems content.
She recently has started pushing against the seat so that the carseat ROCKS back ... is that normal? Or should it stay in place?

Umm - you need to get that carseat checked out asap lol - mine never ever budged - and I just hit a pole last week so I know!

Re: Spinoff: for those that kept DCs rear-facing past 12 months
I'm glad you posted this because I was wondering myself. DD is almost 11 months and her feet still don't come near the backseat. I want to keep her in that as long as I can (she's 18 lb.) but I am noticing that she is getting a little antsy in there now so I hope she can wait!

That's what I was thinking! Except the carseat WAS installed by carseat people!! It was an organized event at LIJ so I know it was reputable (I can't remember the organization's name right now). Ugh, gotta get this figured out ASAP!
