This is a spinoff to the question about whether having $10000 in checking is obscene.

unfortunately, yes

BUT

i'm a SAHM and we have a house to tap into plus an emergency backup plan should we ever need quick cash...

thankfully we do not live check to check, not even close. and we'd like to keep it that way!

we dont - but we dont have a house or children yet- so who knows what the future holds!

Thankfully we don't live pay check to pay check. We learned to save most of our money after paying the bills, it's been working pretty well for us.

Thank goodness we do not live paycheck to paycheck. I do not want to imagine living paycheck to paycheck that is really scary IMO. I love the fact that both of us income and cash from DH business we are able to live comfortably and if any of us should lose our job we would be able to manage well without stressing.

We definitely do. But we are taking HUGE strides in correcting that!!!!

we don't- but since my DH makes commission only sometimes I use over draft or savings to pay monthly bills until his checks come-

I would rather use overdraft then savings- b/c the over draft has to be paid back

it's more of a cash flow issue- then a cash issue

he doesn't get paid every 2 weeks like most people so it makes it harder to budget

my pay is horribly ridiculous-and i only get paid once a month-so its even harder

At the moment, yes.
At least until Rich gets a perm job.

We don't now. But I have a feeling once we have kids we will live paycheck to paycheck.

We don't but there were times we did when we were younger.

We worked hard to get to this point and we still have a ways to go to reach our financial goals, but I think that everybody experiences that one time or another in their lives.

We are - but we are planning a wedding and getting an apt. We both have two jobs. Hopefully after the wedding it will improve and we can save for a house.

I think that most of us are at an age where we no longer live paycheck to paycheck. Through our experiences we have learned to budget and prioritize.

If I would have been asked this same question when I was 20-23 yrs old, I would have said heck ya I live check to check. I have learned not to live beyond my means and that a social life is not more important than rent/mortgage.

We used to but after a while, had had enough and put a stop to it. It took time to pay off the debt and plan for the future, but we're doing it.

We're comfortable in our savings/checking but have bigger goals now. Once we own a house, this may all change but at least we'll have something to show for our poverty.

We do. If one of us loses our job, we are EFFED! Thats just the way it is for us, we dont have much of a choice. Our rent is pretty cheap compared to the going rate in the area as well. We just dont get paid enough.

then ill get a bonus or a tax return and that pads my savings.

but if i didnt get bonuses i would not have much

We sort of do. Right now we are paying off some big debt from when we buildt the house and recovering from the wedding. But we also have a nice savings account so if we run into trouble we have a backup. I think in about 6 months we won't have to worry as much.

In a weird way we sort of do. DH is a self employed contractor. We have money saved but if people don't pay for a long period of time while we are still paying our monthly bills and employees things start to look bleek.

Luckily, we do not. If we were to buy a house right now, we would definitely live paycheck to paycheck.
