spinoff of baby weight post - vent - a little long

i need to get this off my chest...

i gained 23-25lbs with pregnancy and lost 17 within the first week postpartum.

THEN i gained BACK 6 pounds!!! BFing has made me SO hungry, and after not eating for basically my whole pregnancy (between morning sickness, heartburn, etc) i decided to have a field day and not restrict myself at all. also, water still gives me heartburn even after pregnancy, so i've resorted to lots of sweet drinks (don't drink artificial sweeteners because of BFing).

so i think i'm the only person who gained weight AFTER pregnancy Chat Icon none of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit, between my LARGE azz and thighs and my newfound nursing mongo boobs.

on monday i had a meltdown in the dressing room of ann taylor loft. i was crying, i think the dressing room lady thought i was nuts. Chat Icon

so now i'm committed to getting the weight off. i'm watching what i eat. i've gone to the gym twice but 7 weeks of bedrest really took their toll and i'm so out of shape... i used to be able to run a marathon and i could barely run a mile Chat Icon

i am just so upset with myself for letting this spiral out of control.

just needed to vent this... thanks for listening...

I had the same experience when I was BFing. My appetite was ridiculous! Once I stopped BFing I was able to regulate my meals again & the weight is more controlled.

it took 9 months to gain the weight and it will take a while to get it off. You will be able to run like you used to, it will just take time. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've decreased my breastfeeding (only do it about 40% now, rest is formula), and I have noticed a definite difference in my body as I've still been eating the same as when I was EBF. It's sneaky!!

To the OP, you'll be fine, don't worry. There's no set time for you to lose the weight...you have to concentrate on being happy and healthy for you and your baby, no matter what the # on the scale says. It's not a race-- you'll get where you want to soon enough!

I have put on weight since having DS, and I am NOT happy about it. I HATE getting dressed, I usually stay in PJs or sweats. I cannot stand to look at myself in a full length mirror. The first time I went shopping after having DS, I almost cried in the dressing room. I put on pants in 1 size, then had to go UP TWO sizes. DH said "Who cares, you look great" Yeah, I CARE!

I then had to hear him say "Wow, look how skinny you were" while looking at photos from my bridal shower (April 2006--almost 1 yr before giving birth to DS)!! I didnt know if I should slap him or cry! But I did neither. I printed out the pic and have it hanging on the freezer. My incentive to NOT eat ice cream (my weakness).

I wish you luck, as weight loss does not come easy. Esp when you have a new baby!

I totally understand. I lost 40lbs of weight in the first 2 weeks which was fluid anyways from preclampsia and I gained 10 of it back due to other health issues. Plus I have the mondo boobies going on...and its hard because I used to be petite and now I am not.

I feel your pain and I get jealous of the people who lost the weight so easily-I was one of thos epeople for a few weeks.

I am trying to tell myself that its ok becasue I have a baby and sometimes that makes me feel better--so my advice is to look at your son when you are down and think you did/doing it for him and when the time comes as he gets older you can devote more time to losing weight---for right now just fall in love wiht him each and every day Chat Icon

No you are not alone. I lost 15lbs during my pregnancy due to severe morning sickness. I lost even more weight after the baby was born from BFing. Now my appetite has made a comeback and I'm dreading this weight that I've gained. Give yourself time. I tell myself that having a little one means having a lot on my plate, all the time, at once. Soon enough I'll have "me time" and who wants to rush the little ones when they're soooo precious!

ha, my dh loves to comment on how i shouldn't wear my pre pg jeans, cause it's not attractive with a "muffin top".
I look at him and tell him i'm lucky i can button them up 2 months after having a baby..it does suck not losing the weight as quickly as you want, and i can't wait to lose the last 10 lbs which is the hardest, but like everyone says, you will get there!

Re: spinoff of baby weight post - vent - a little long

Chat Icon Youll get back into shape dont worry, like everyone says it takes your body 9 months to get stretched out and will take more than 9 months to go back. Its easy to stretch the skin then to tighten, plus its a winter baby, the weather is harder to get outside so makes it even harder to do things.

I figure once the spring comes ill be more motivated to go for walks outside, and then ill worry more about it. Right now im just trying to be healthy eating wise, than anything else.

Good Luck on your task.

Chat Icon Chat Icon this is my BIG reason for being so blue. i HATE the way i look. i have NO clothes and need to lose about 40lbs - i've never been this big in my life. I went shopping starting trying on pants, cried and left. I am going back to work soon and need to get stuff to wear and am dreeeeaddding it. I eat well and try to get on the treadmill as often as i can but with DD being so inconsistent its hard. i wait for DH to be around so i can get on.

I wish i had 2 hours a day to devote to myself to exercise and shower uninterrupted. Some weeks i can get on 3x per week but i haven't lost anymore weight since my initial weight loss?? I had not exercised in a year so i'm out of shape. Everyone keeps saying to give myself time and i'm trying. I won't even go on a date with DH because i feel so gross! Chat Icon Chat Icon

i'm hoping once i'm back at work i can get on a better schedule
