Spinoff of Beth's bathtime post: Brushing teeth

Sarah used to love to brush her teeth. Now all of a sudden she doesn't want to, won't let me do it, she keeps her jaw locked and I can't get near them. I've tried making it like a game, doing a silly dance and song, begging, nothing works. Anyone have any suggestions?

I always brush my teeth at the same time as Alex... she's a little monkey and LOVES to imitate everything I do, so that seems to work, for now...

Have you tried those character or music battery operated toothbrushes? the kids- 2 and up love them, also flavored toothpaste. If you go to a pedo dentist we have cool flavors, vanilla icecream, chocolate icecream and orange vanilla. sometimes kids hate the OTC flavors, crest also has a good one, the bubble gum sparkle toothpaste. Im not sure if the stores have them but if you go on the website crest.com Im sure you can order it. good luck.

DS always liked to brush his teeth, my problem was that he sometimes wouldn't let me finish the job to make sure he did it right cause you know... "Aidan do it!" Chat Icon

Someone on here (barb?) suggested something about mommy having to get the cavity monster out of the mouth or their favorite character. I used Elmo at first, that I could see him in the back of his mouth and was trying to get him.
It worked like a charm.

Now I just tell him he did a great job but I just need to check and see if the Cavity guys or monsters are still there - he's not scared, but interested enough to let me in.

We brush together and I let him play with the water if he wants.

i was having a problem getting my 2 yo to brush-he was doing the same thing as your daughter...
I took him to the store to buy an electric toothbrush and bubblegum toothpaste and made it a BIG DEAL! he was so excited to pick out his own toothbrush! this is what worked for me-oh and he LOVES the rinsing &spitting part! we do it together and now he gets psyched to brush his teeth!!!
