Oh i'm not. That's why i'm asking you girls since you're so informative!
i was just secretly hoping it was okay. That way i would spare everyone of my puffy hair when the baby is born, including myself!

have you ever lapsed on it before? I had been letting mine grow out, and it's still pin straight at the ends. I only have to blow dry the roots- and with my super healthy prego hair- it looks great- actually shiny.

Re: Spinoff of dying hair... thermal reconditioning (japanese straightening)???
the TODAY show did a segment of hair dying in pregnancy and the doctor on the show mentioned that she wouldn't recommend it during the first tri because it's the most sensitive time. if you must chemically treat your hair then do it after.
i say def try to do later in the pregnancy if you can. or don't do it at all. this is a safery measure.

no i haven't. I just know that before i get touchups, my hair starts to get curly at the roots and it drives me insane!
Are you going to get it done it again after you give birth?

Re: Spinoff of dying hair... thermal reconditioning (japanese straightening)???
I too had JHS done in March and then got pregnant over the summer. My hair was never really curly, I got it done to smooth the frizz and wave. I too only need to blow the roots, the rest is still straight.
I still have not decided if I will do it again after the birth. I love not having to blow dry it!

My hairdresser said she wouldnt do it while i was pregnant (not that i would have done it anyway). But she also said that your hair changes during pregnancy and it might not even take.

Re: Spinoff of dying hair... thermal reconditioning (japanese straightening)???
I got mine done in the beginning of the third trimester - or it might have been at the end of the second. The only issue that I had was sitting in a room that reeked of chemicals but I stood outside the place while I was waiting for my hair to take so I could breathe fresh air.

Re: Spinoff of dying hair... thermal reconditioning (japanese straightening)???
I personally woul;dn't do it, but I did read somewhere that you could get it done later in your pregnancy. I had mine done last in May. The baby is due in May, so I will have it touched up after the birth. I went a year between touch-ups last time and just blow dry my roots and on humid days flat iron my roots. It doesn't take much time at all!

Re: Spinoff of dying hair... thermal reconditioning (japanese straightening)???
I don't think there are any confirmed studies or data indicating whether it's safe or not, that's why it's not recommended by doctors.
Despite that, I'm still considering having my roots done towards the mid-to-end of my 3rd tri. The chemicals aren't on your head for that long of a period. I feel like most of the time spent there is having your hair washed, dried and flat-ironed.

Re: Spinoff of dying hair... thermal reconditioning (japanese straightening)???
As i have said before, I have been a hairdresser for many years and I would NOT do a Japanese Straightening while p/g. Some of the ingredients, from what I have been told, are not safe in pregnancy. And aside from that, getting any kind of perm or straightening while p/g is not a good idea. Hair seems to respond to these kinds of chemicals differently during pregnancy. Ranging from, just not working to really damaging or breaking it. It is not an absolute but I would turn down a client any day of the week!
