Spinoff on Glider/Rocker
I have an actual rocking chair, and thought we could use this. I'm trying to keep costs down and thought this would be ok. But it is kind of small and the arms are wooden and skinny.
For all of you who have bought a glider/rocker, how much did you love it? Did it really come in handy?
Or, do you need a rocker to begin with? How important is it?

I think you'll be fine with a rocker. I have my rocker from when I was a baby that I'm going to use in addition to the glider. Our parents all had rockers, I'm sure you'll be just fine with it.

Re: Spinoff on Glider/Rocker
my parents offered to buy a glider so i am taking them up on it. if you have another comfy place to sit, then not getting one is a great way to keep costs down. looking around our house we have limited seating, and nothing really conducive to nursing baby...

Re: Spinoff on Glider/Rocker
You definately want somewhere comfortable to feed the baby. Those little heads get heavy when they fall asleep! Also, Sarah loves to curl up in our laps while we read her books.
A rocker would work, you can get chair pads for them through the JC Penney catalog (my grandmother has one) or my mom got me this Shermag glider/ottoman set from Target (this is the newer model) which is super comfortable, even for my DH who is 6'4". With shipping it's less than $180. We're going to order another one so we have one in each kid's room.

Thank you for posting this. We found one in BRU we both love but it will take 16 weeks to come in. I am due in less than 12. We are going to check this one out. Thanks again!

Re: Spinoff on Glider/Rocker
I think a regular rocking chair would be fine. That is originally what I wanted, but I am short (only 5 feet). I felt that I had a hard time reaching the floor and to rock in one of them was more effort than I wanted to exert while feeding/comforting the baby. With the glider & ottoman I can put my feet up and it is much easier for me.
Some people say they have never used their gliders. As long as you have a comfortable place to sit, you should be fine.

Re: Spinoff on Glider/Rocker
I think that some sort of comfortable chair to feed and rock the baby is SOOO important in the beginning. Keep in mind you may be catching some winks in the first few weeks in this chair in the middle of the night while rocking or feeding the baby, so try and make it as comfortable as possible.
I was going to go with a cheaper rocker but I decided on a Best Chairs glider. It was only about $450 and they had a cheaper model for $339 I think at BRU. We didn't get the ottoman but I am SOOOO glad that we got the rocker. It was seriously a GODSEND in the first few months.

Check out bjs/sams and costco too - sometimes they get in gliders that are name brands but less expensive too!
