spinoff poll to the two bedroom
would you buy a home without a master bathroom?
even when we looked at 2 BR's our immediate plan was to add a master suite with bath. As an only child I always had my own bathroom & when I was single I always rented places with 2 baths, one for me-one for my son/guests. It is one of my most important things about a house. We have two older kids & overnight guests often, I can't imagine not having a private bath. There have been times that we had 6 adult overnight guests & some guests used our bathroom, but it would have taken all day for all of us to get ready if we didn't have 3 bathrooms. I'm especially shocked when I see 500k on MLSLI with one general bath & maybe one half bath on another floor.
Am I the only one that thinks this way?

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
I'm on the other side of the fence. A master bath is definitely NOT a necessity. Two baths would be nice or a bath and a half, but I don't see the necessity of a master bath. But, if I was able to afford it and a house with a master bath was for sale and I liked the general house, I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up. I just consider master baths a luxury, not a necessity.

For us, I wanted 2 bathrooms for sure. It didn't have to be a master bath.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
I live in a 3 bedroom house and we only have the one bathroom! Shock Horror! Most homes in the UK only have one bedroom, en suites and downstairs loos are gaining in popularity now.
I would give my right arm for an en suite bathroom.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
We knew when buying our house that we needed at least 2 bathrooms but we didn't really need a master bath but would have been nice. We ended up buying a house with 2.5 baths & our master bath is the best thing. For us, it was more about a bathroom on each floor so that when we had guests stay over or even over, they would not have to use our main bathroom.
Growing up, we only had 1.5 bath & there was 4 of us. It was difficult when it came time for showering but all in all, we all survived!

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
We don't have a master bath. 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath, plus a half bath in the basement (used to be an appt.).
Would I like it? Sure!!
So far it has been just the 2 of us so hasn't been an issue. Baby will just have to adjust.
When I met DH he already owned this house so I certainly wasn't going to suggest moving because there was no master bath....

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
Our current house has no master bath. We do have two bathrooms, though. That's almost a must, especially with kids (with 4 in the house, eventually *someone* will be hogging the bathroom for some reason... ) When we get the house remodeled, we're adding more bathrooms, and eventually we'll convert one of the bathrooms to a master bath. It's nice when you have kids to have a separate bathroom, but not mandatory.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
A master bath was def. not important to us - and still isn't. We have 3 full bathrooms (one on each floor) and I think that is plenty.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
Originally I would have said no, but our current house has one and I LOVE it! I've gotten so used to it I would really hate to give it up. The house we're buying has 3.5 baths. I didn't really need that many, but I'm thrilled that I don't have to give up my master bath!

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
MY DH and I have bought a two bedroom house and we have currently have a house now with two full baths but no master bath.
As far as buying a two bedroom house, I did not regret it at all. It was what we could afford at the time and it was only the two of us. We recently sold it and made a profit after 2 years.
In our new house we have two baths but no master. When we were looking two baths was a must but a master bath was not a requirement.
To me things that are dealbreakers are overall the size of the house or property is too small or too large, a bad neighborhood, a bad piece of property (dangerous driveway etc...). Eveything else can be changed over time.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
It was a requirement of mine - with two teenage step-daughters that are here 3/4 of the time - it pretty much is a necessity.
But we found a a house that worked out for us without a master bath. We have 3 bedrooms downstairs with a full and half bath and two bedrooms upstairs with a full bath. Kids are downstairs (so they don't need to share in the AM) and DH and I are upstairs (so I don't need to share ).

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
It is not something I had to have when looking for a house...we knew the house we were buying was our "starter" house-in a great neighborhood -didn't need any work really- and we could afford it- having the M.B. would have been a nice addition but DEF. NOT something I HAD TO HAVE... in a new home we buy which will be bigger, we probably would want one- but would not NEED one
two bathrooms is a MUST, but not necessarily in the bedroom

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
i grew up with 4 people and one bathroom... so i'm used to sharing my house now only has one bathroom, but its just DH and i, so its not too bad...but, we are buying ILs house that has 2 bathrooms, and i can't wait for that! i think that 2 bathrooms is really nice to have, almost a necessity now with 2 people working and everyone having to get ready and get out of the house... BUT, i don't think that one of them has to be a master bath, as long as there are 2 bathrooms, i'm good

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
I grew up with 4 people in the house and one bath.
Two baths - hey even another 1/2 bath - would have been great but we did fine.
Going forward I'd like to have more than 1 bath but a master is not a necessity for me at all.

It was a must for us, we were spoiled b/c the condo we had had two full baths, one in our bedroom. While our masterbath here is small it's still there!

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
Definitely not a necessity for me. I grew up in a house with 6 people and 1 1/2 bathrooms. For years, we only had a bathtub even - no shower! So I'm used to sharing. Luckily, we found a house we could afford with 2 bathrooms, so we're good, but neither one is just for us....and I'm ok with that!

A must for me is 2 bathrooms but not the master bath. Although it is a nice extra it is not a must.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
yes- we did! the house only has one bathroom. would I have liked another one, even a half a bath? yes of course, but one has to make sacrifices somewhere. DH grew up in a house with two other siblings and just one bath and was just fine. I hope someday down the line we can have another bathroom but having a master bath, definitely is a luxury and not a must-have.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
I need to have at least 2 full baths in my house, having a master is not necessary as long as I have 2 full baths.
That said, our current has has 3 full baths, one of which is a very small master bathroom. It has a shower stall, sink and toilet. My DH uses it mainly, because I like our tub to shower in.

AS we were trading up from our starter house, yes, a master bath was a necessity.

There are not that many houses on LI with a master bathroom!
It's almost a MUST if you live in the South.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom
we have two full baths. the upstairs isnt a master bath, but the main bath is next to the bedroom.
we know in 10 years we will either trade up or expand - when we do I will want a master bath, but for our first house it wasnt in our budget, lol..
