$500K doesn't seem unreasonable for 1.5 baths in my book.

Master bath isn't a necessity, but it's a nice to have depending on the size of the family.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom

the houses we looked at w/o master bathrooms definitely got huge negative points. I REALLY wanted a master bathroom.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom

I wouldn't not buy a house with out a Master bath

I would not buy a house with less then 3 bathrooms (2.5)

one of the reason I can't wait to be out of our aprtment is only 1 bathroom

my parents house had a master bath, a kids bathroom and a 1/2 bath downstairs that was converted into a full bath

some things I wont comprimise on

I would have loved a master bath. We must have looked at like 50 houses on LI, and looking back I think only a handful had them.

If we decide to stay in this house long term, we ill probably eventually extend and make one.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom

Having two bathrooms was a necessity, but one being a master was not. It did work out that we got a master bath, and I love it, but still not necessary.

A master bath was not important to us...we have 2 full baths and that is fine with us.

i only wanted at least 2 bathrooms. It didn't matter if it included a master bath or not.

It was a requirement of mine - with two teenage step-daughters that are here 3/4 of the time - it pretty much is a necessity.

But we found a a house that worked out for us without a master bath. We have 3 bedrooms downstairs with a full and half bath and two bedrooms upstairs with a full bath. Kids are downstairs (so they don't need to share in the AM) and DH and I are upstairs (so I don't need to share Chat Icon).

my kids are teens too, my son has his own bathroom in his room, my stepdaughter uses the guest/main bath because she is here part time. the kids are on the first floor. Our bedroom, bath, office & gym are upstairs...total privacy.
To me the bathroom thing is more important granite counters or something like that could ever be.
I guess its because I'm not used to sharing.

I did not realize so many homes on LI don't have master baths, every house I've ever lived in has had one-even my rentals.

I have never lived with more than 1 bathroom so it doesn't make a difference to me.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom

I would like a master bath but is't not a necessity. Our house now has 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. I do wish sometimes that we had a second bath but it's no biggie since it's just the two of us.
There were 5 of us growing up in a 2 bedroom 1 bath house. We survived Chat Icon

Two bathrooms is a necessity, but it didn't necessarily have to be a master suite. It just worked out in our case that our bathroom is attached to our bedroom, but that was just a perk.

Re: spinoff poll to the two bedroom

Since this is our first house and we don't have children yet, a master bedroom was not a necessity. We have 3br. 1.5 baths, but now that we know what we want, whether we move or expand our current home, a master bath will be something want.

Oh, growing up there were four of us in a 3 br 1.5 bath house and we survived Chat Icon

I personally don't think more than 1 bathroom is a necessity unless you have a very large family. We are a family of 4 and when I grew up we were a family of 4 and we really didn't have many problems.

A master bath wasn't a necessity for us. I only saw it as an added bonus if a home had one.

As someone who grew up with 5 people with one bathroom, yes. A master bathroom sounds like a luxury to me!
