Re: Spinoff question re lunch: deli turkey
You can have it even if it's not heated...
it's just bologna, olive loaf, etc...things that are processed...and made from other things, that may have listeria..
My dr told me to enjoy turkey!!

Re: Spinoff question re lunch: deli turkey
I have eaten it a couple of times not heated, so I definitely think heating it is fine.

Re: Spinoff question re lunch: deli turkey
i wrote in your original post that it is fine, at least my dr says so.
If you are buying meats from a reputable source i really dont think there is a need to worry about listeria.
I was more cautious the first time around, this time around, i'm eating ham and turkey pastrami. LOL

Re: Spinoff question re lunch: deli turkey
My Dr. said to avoid anything, even cheese, that comes from a deli due to possible cross contamination. Most moms I know say it's fine as long as you go to a good, clean deli with a high turnover rate. This is my first so I'm pretty cautious about everything. I have been mostly avoiding deli meats, but when I HAVE to have them, I heat them first.

I have been very careful as well, as I know someone who lost a pregnancy from bacteria on deli meat
my doctor said to always heat bc they are more worried about the blades being dirty. Even clean places don't always clean their blades the way they should.

Re: Spinoff question re lunch: deli turkey
I haven't heated it. I only get it from a place that I trust and really only have it on the first or second day that I get it.

Re: Spinoff question re lunch: deli turkey
I think I read that listeriosis only effects 2500 people in the entire united states each year- of those 2500 people, about 25-30% of those are pregnant women.. what, 625-700 women in the entire United States?
Even though our doctors scare the beejesus out of us re: what to eat and what not to eat.. it's a very, very rare disease.
I'm not saying to NOT be vigiliant- but I think a lot of us are under the misunderstanding that the disease is way more prevalent than it is.

Not to mention you can get it from a salad too.
