Spinoff: SAHMs, do you have your own bank accounts?
DH and I joined everything since having DS. We have one savings and one checking account. We have the same credit cards. We still have different 401k and IRA accounts. Don't think you can combine those.
SAHMs, do you have your own bank accounts?
I didn't think about having a just in case account now that I am working and financially independent. I can't help but think I should have a just in case account if I am going to be financially dependent on DH.

No we share an account as well as an AMEX. I think i do have an account out there somewhere with a few bucks in it though come to think of it...lol

Yes....I have my own, hubby has his own, and we have a joint account...When we get money for birthday's and holiday's it goes in our own accounts. Everything else goes into our joint account. I had my own account before I had DS and I just kept it...I used it to pay my own bills. Now that I don't really have a job, I pay my own bills when I can...

No we share everything. Dh works and I spend it lol. We just have a joint savings and checking. I pay all the bills and manage everything.

Just curious at how this works logistically. I expect some sort of allowance from DH. We haven't talked about it in depth but I'm thinking of getting $X from DH's earnings to use as I please. I'm sure he expects me to just charge it/spend it from our joint account but I think I'd maybe want some flexibility to save some money on my own.

Hubby will put about 250 a month into my account for the basics. He does the regular food shopping for him and I. He pays my bills and his. But that was something he did before I lost my job. I didn't owe a lot...I shop for DS's needs. For holidays, I use my account to get him stuff. He has since retired from work and now we are on somewhat of a fixed income... I don't go shopping without a reason. I buy for DS when I need to and very rarely buy anything for myself. Gas and groceries are the big items...We have money set aside for car repairs and emergencies...

I make $ on the side, I make custom cakes.. I use that money to buy the "goodies" I want!

DH joined my private account so "he could put money in there more easily", but I don't like him in there. I plan to get another one. I honestly don't remember why I let him join it, I was prego and crazy.

I actually do have one...only because I've been too lazy to close it. Believe it or not, DH and I just opened our first joint account last April after six years of marriage. After that, I let mine dry up...
