Spinoff to age restriction on trick-or-treaters...

What do you guys think about babies who are trick-or-treating...

Not infants....but...for example...

We went to 4 houses with Emily tonight. To the neighbor's houses ---- more to show her off then anything.

I told all of them NO CANDY -- we just wanted to visit and show her in the costume...

one of them insisted on giving us candy --- which I won't give to her ... and I don't want to eat it.

To be honest I felt SOOO silly even taking her around --- but I felt bad if I didn't...

do you think it is ridiculous for 1 year olds go go out trick-or-treating with their parents? No older sibs?

Re: Spinoff to age restriction on trick-or-treaters...

i gave them candy

i trust that the parent know better and will give the child what is appropriate to eat

IMO they are trick or treating more for the fun social aspect..

SO I WOULD DEF give them a treat

My daughter and I took my grandson, who is 9 months old, to my neighbors' homes this afternoon. He was all dressed up and they got a kick out of it and we got some candy. A good time was had by all.Chat Icon

Little kids are adorable.

The one year old across the street did not go this year, just her 4 year old brother.

I didn't see any kids that age but they could have been with the parents on the street, my house is set back a bit.

If Ava was older, I would have taken her to a couple of houses, but she's not even 5 months old. She didn't even know she had a costume onChat Icon

I think Trick or Treating is fine for babies to show off. I'm with you, I wouldn't accept candy either.

For a 1 year old, they already see the oohs & aahs...

Re: Spinoff to age restriction on trick-or-treaters...

We had someone ring our bell tonight who was a full grown adult. I am looking for a kid and I see a child in a stroller, who couldnt have been more than 2 TOPS at the end of the walk. There is no way this child would be eating this candy. They didnt bring the child to the door. Honestly, it looked like the father was panhandling for candy. I could barely see the kid.

My neighbor came with their baby and I gave her candy, even though I know she won't eat it.

Anyone that came with the real little ones, I would tip the bowl so mom could see what candy I had and ask her what she ( the mommy) wanted to eat later. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to age restriction on trick-or-treaters...

I don't think it's silly. It's an american tradition - so why not...you buy her xmas presents and throw them bday parties even though they might not understand what it going on.

We took Talia to about 6 houses of people we knew. By the third house she totally knew what was going on...she walked up to the door - took candy put it in her bag, and walked away - NO JOKE it was like she was 5 - she totally knew - next year is going to be fun! (And I let her have a twizzler - she loved it!)

I love to see the babies. Who cares who eats the candy? In my book, if you wear a costume, you get candy if the parent allows it.

I loved getting trick or treaters today!! The babies were just adorable... I am sure your neighbors enjoyed seeing her.

DH and I went out for dinner at 7pm - thereby avoiding the whole teenager -wearing-jeans-and-a-sweatshirt-looking-for-candy dilema...

I love looking at all the kids with their costumes regardless of their age. It's so much fun. A lot of moms do this with their little ones...i think it's cute.

We went around to friends' houses, mostly to say hi, catch up, and show off a bit. Everybody gave candy knowing that I'd be the one eating it Chat Icon. I only think it would be a little strange if people went to strangers' houses and expected candy.

Re: Spinoff to age restriction on trick-or-treaters...

I took Jacob also to around 10 houses on my block. He got the hang of walking to the doors and was having fun... It was just so cute... plus I got to meet people with kids that were Jacob's age that I never knew about...

To tell you the truth I got alot of the pretzel bags which are more healthy and Jacob can eat them and the candy he received , I gave right back to kids that came to my door...Of course I kept a couple of starbursts for myself and I also gave him a little piece of a 3 muskateer

It is all in good fun

Re: Spinoff to age restriction on trick-or-treaters...

This is the first year I took Andrew trick or treating. He is 2-1/2. His first year, he was 6 months and we did not even go out, except for a walk. Last year, he was 18 months, and we dressed him and went for a walk. No trick or treating, I felt silly because he was so young!

This year .. forget it, I had him kicking and screaming all the way home saying, "please, one more house for candy!" Chat Icon

Toi answer your question, I think its fine to go around. If your little cutie is dressed, why not show her off! I think its great saying No candy, but you know they will want to give anyway (people were trying to hand me candy for Lauren who was sitting in her stroller and she is not even 6 months!).

What a found a bit odd Chat Icon today was seeing a mom of an infant, younger than 1, bringing the child up to a door and having the mom actually hold out a bag to get candy!

My neighbor came over wither 3 month old and her 4 year old. They were adorable and they ended up staying for a while and chatting. The 3 month old fell asleep in my arms. Chat Icon

I think that's great that you took her out trick or treating! I love watching all the little kids, as opposed to the teenagers....because the little kids are usualyl so excited about their costumes....and the older kids just want to play with shaving cream and get as much candy as possible - not that there is anything wrong with that, but the little ones are adorable all dressed up!

I had adults drag their kids to my door to Trick-or-Treat. I think the PARENTS wanted the candy and the kids were the coverup!!!
