Spinoff to American Girl Dolls
What age is a good age for these?
I have no ideas for DD for Christmas but I don't know if she is too young or not? (4 years old)

4 is a good age for the American Girl Bitty Baby.
DD is getting an AG this weekend, and she is 6. Their recommended age is actually 8, but I think she is responsible enough now to get one.

Maybe I will wait another year or so. She has "baby" dolls already that she plays with so I wanted to get her more of a "grown up" doll.
Maybe for her birthday we can do the big trip to the city thing to go to the store there.
Ughhh....I hate buying gifts!

Target sells their own version of an AG doll called Our Generation. They are really cute and well made. They are also about $30 and they come with a book, and a change of clothes. They are almost identical to AG dolls. DD got one for her 5th birthday. And you can get those Dollie & Me sets at like Kohls or BJs where kid and doll have matching outfits.

DD got a Bitty Baby at 3 1/2 & loved it. I wanted to get her an American Girl for Christmas at 4, but my mom warned me she may not be ready. So instead, I gave her my old doll to play with to see how she liked her. Boy am I glad I went that route! My old doll is currently sitting in my bedroom waiting to be mailed out to the doll hospital to have her right leg reattached & she could certainly use a day at the hair salon  We'll be waitiing until she's 7 or so to buy her own doll I think.

SD is 7 and I was going to wait another couple of years before even considering getting her one...then again, she does not treat her belongings well at all, does not take good care of things she values...so I'm not going to spend over $100 on something she will just end up trashing.

My DD is almost 2 and LOVES her Bitty Baby Doll. She has 2 American Girl Dolls but I won't let her play with them yet.
I think 5 is a good age to start with the American Girl.
Did you see the new ones from Pottery Barn? I love them!! Not that much cheaper but I think they are so pretty. And they hot Doll & Child events at some Pottery Barn Stores.

I'm so glad my DD is not a doll kid bc I cannot understand why these dolls cost so much... I guess compared to some of that other kids junk out there at least you know what you are getting for your $$ but yikes, way too much for my pocketbook.

We got an AG catalog in September, DD was 4. She read it EVERYDAY and practically drooled over the one she wanted. She got it for xmas that year. I have to say I think it was the xmas gift she was most excited about but she doesn't play w/ it that much to justify what I spent. We have two and she plays w/ them but I refuse to buy more or spend the $$ on the overpriced accessories, like the tub or wheelchair that she keeps asking for

My DD got her first one at age 2 and now has three bitty baby dolls (set of twins and one with the molded hair). She plays with them every single day. The American Girl store is her favorite place, the cafe is so cute. You really can't go wrong with the bitty baby's, they are very durable, the eyes don't fall off like other dolls and they have some neat accessories. I used to wonder why they are so expensive, but while her other dolls have fallen apart, these really hold up. The larger dolls I'm holding off until she is older.

My DD is 4 and has 3 american girl dolls.. We got her Chrissa- which was a girl of the year for 2009 and was going to retire (they only come out for 1 year..) She somehow saw and advert of her and really wanted her..
She also has Kit and Lanie (another Girl of the Year)...
Honestly- she isn't really "into" them that much- doesn't plan w/ them so much- but I know eventually she will...
I stock a bunch of American Girl doll clothing in our shop (darlings & divas) and most of the girls who come in and buy them are between 5 and 7
