Spinoff to Birth Stories...

When Noah was born the midwife held a big mirror at my feet so I got to see him being born...it was amazing and I would recommend it to everyone!

Did anyone else get to see their bundle of joy sliding out into the world??

Re: Spinoff to Birth Stories...

I'm an L&D nurse so I see it all the time and while it is amazing to watch I was not at all interested in checking out my own birth. I tore pretty badly so I'm glad I didn't see anything.

No I was so damn bloated that I don't think I could see over my huge stomach and Flinstone legs if I tried....

Re: Spinoff to Birth Stories...

There was a big mirror on the wall at the end of my bed. The doctor moved for 1 minute to get something and I could see DD's head and I shut my eyes, lol. It made the pain worse, lol. I could have requested a stand up mirror but I didn't want to. They told us they only have 1 stand up mirror because VERY few people want to see, lol.

They asked if I wanted a mirror, but I didn't really want to watch.

I wish I did but I never thought to ask if they had a mirror plus I think it would have freaked DH out even though he was watching

I don't even like to *think* about what was going on on the other side of that curtain--let alone see it. As far as I'm concerned, my internal organs have always been on the inside!

I don't know what my next birth will be like yet--c/s or VBAC--but I don't see myself, well, "seeing myself."

I'm a very squeamish sort!

They unveiled a mirror. Ugh. The first thing I thought was "Holy crap, look at that cellulite!" I would have liked to see Maddie in the mirror since she was born with the amniotic sac in tact. I did see her for a split second in it but a mirror would have been easier.

I did better when I was concentrating on the slow breathing out during the contractions.

I ended up pushing at 7pm so it was dark out and the windows become reflective at night (like a HUGE mirror), however I had my eyes closed the entire time!!!

I did see the placenta being delivered. Not exactly pretty! My OB said I had the longest umbilical cord she ever saw!Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to Birth Stories...

No, I didn't look. But I did feel her head. At first I didn't want to but I am glad I did as it helped me realize how close I was to delivering.

Re: Spinoff to Birth Stories...

they asked me if i wanted a mirror and i said no. dont know why i said no guess i could wait the extra minute until Olivia popped out. DH was having fun watching everything. The look on his face when i got cut was priceless an the same for when they delivered the placenta. he was sitting in the chair holding olivia when they put the placenta on the table next to him

the midwife asked me if I wanted to use the mirror, i said no at first. Then she said it would really help me push, so I agreed to it. It was actually pretty amazing, and totally gave me more motiviation to push!

Re: Spinoff to Birth Stories...

I wish. I am actually dissapointed with my birth experience. Maybe I should have used a midwife or female OB. First of all, it was Saturday and my OB let me know he was in a hurry to get out of there - causing me to feel rushed. When it was time to push, I think I pushed too hard and fast and had little support or instruction from the Doc or Nurse who are "best freinds" and were basically hanging out with each other. My DH tells me I delivered her on my own. Then, as soon as she was delivered, the Neonatologist took her to the corner of the room to check her out because she had Hydronephrosis (not something that she had to be checked out for right away - again, I think he was in a hurry to get out of there). It seemed like forever until I got to see, kiss and hold her. I felt very detatched from the experience and didn't feel like I had actually given birth. I will definately do it differently next time. I wanted to see and touch her while she was coming out. I also wanted them to give her to me immediately - even with all the gunk on her. Next time DH and I will be more assertive. We were just so terrified the first time.
