Spinoff to birthday parties...re siblings

Do you just not go to the party if you can't bring younger siblings?
I often have an issue with this b/c DH is usually working on the weekend so I've had to bring both kids. It hasn't ever been a problem b/c Colin has been a baby and not in the way, not participating...But now he's obviously getting older.
I don't have "babysitters" on the weekend. My mom leaves Friday night to her country house, back Sunday afternoons - I usually see her Sunday evenings.
DH's mom travels a lot and when she doesn't she helps with the kids during the week so I wouldn't ask her for more help on the weekends - it's her time "off".

Just preparing myself to start regretting a lot more parties Chat Icon I feel bad skipping b/c I know Ryan enjoys them, but obviously don't expect to bring Colin to everything.

What do you if you have 2 or more and your DH works weekends?

My DS and DD are 3 and 2. So fay all of the parties my DS was invited to welcomed my DD too. I think it depends on the location. I guess if someone had a party at a party place that has a maximum then you might not be able to bring your other child. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh I know - and understand. I wouldn't want someone to have to pay for Colin since I know if every sibling was included it would add up.

I guess more wondering how I explain to Ryan - he'll hate Colin if I say he can't go to a party b/c I have no place for Colin Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to birthday parties...re siblings

I'm in the same boat as you. My DH works Saturdays which is when 90% of the parties we attend are. It hasnt been a problem yet...Derek is so young the party places dont count him. I do have a sitter available on occasion. She is in HS and involved in activities so I try to leave Derek home when I can for my own sanity Chat Icon plus I look at TJ's birthday parties time for him and I to spend together. My parents help me out two, sometimes 3 days during the week so I also dont like to bother them on weekends unless I have no choice.

Do you have any neighbors in your area with HS kids? Or an older cousin that would babysit occasionally?

Oddly there are like no "families" around us in that age group. I feel like I know no one in my neighborhood aside from my immediate neighbors and they have older boys (off in college) and a new family just moved in with 8 and 10 yr olds.

I have a few younger cousins but they don't drive yet so for an hour and a half party to pick up someone 20-minutes away, then pay what - like $30 for the couple of hours, gift and time...Muy complicado and expensive Chat Icon
