Re: Spinoff to cell phones...should they allow them in school????
Well I see both sides......My DH is a teacher in a middle school and the kids are constantly text messaging God knows who OR if the teacher says something to them they don't like they get out their phone and text message their parents right away...
ON the other side with all of these school violence issues I can see why parents would want them to be in school....Look at that girl in Missouri was it...her last contact with her parents was a text message as she was being held hostage and then was killed

I teach in a high school and every kid has one. We have "rules" about electronics (cell, ipod) and they usually respect them. In todays world our district wouldn't dream of banning them.
My DD is 2 and as soon as she gets to elementary school she will have a cell phone.
elementary school?
I dont think I was even allowed to talk ont he phoen yet at that age .....lol
PLEASE tell me you guys are talking about the firefly phones and not real cell phones.

Re: Spinoff to cell phones...should they allow them in school????
Some kids in my class have them (I teach 3rd grade)...I told them I will not take it away from them if I don't see them....I can understand why they need them...the neighborhood I work in is not the best and the kids walk home by themselves

They should NOT be used in school. AND, teachers need to ALSO follow this rule and be positive role models. I have a cell phone, but it's off during the day. If someone needs to reach me in a DIRE emergency, they call the school.
totally NOT appropriate for school!

Re: Spinoff to cell phones...should they allow them in school????
That is a big issue in my school. I work in a HS. The students are not allowed to have cell phones. If A student is seen with one you are supposed to take it away. The students are always on their phones, especially typing away to their friends on their sidekicks. I'm sure they do that on tests too. Students say they need the phones for emergencies, or if their parent want to get in touch with them. That's understandable, but WHY are the using it if there is NO emergency?? It's definately a distraction IMO.
