Spinoff to childhood posts...Making "concoctions"
Anyone else make "concoctions" as a child?
We would take anything we could find under the bathroom sink and make concoctions in the sink. Scarily.... we would use a toothbrush to stir the mixture up.
One time I even recall putting peanut butter in the concoction. We even called it "concoctions". How we knew that word, I don't know. And why my mother was so oblivious is beyond me. God only knows what chemicals we were mixing.

a friend and I always used to mix baby powder and water, it turns into this paste type stuff that's a really awesome consistency. And then we used to put it all over our hands and arms.

YES! I was obsessed with it. I mostly did it with things i found in the yard or when exploring. I would test it on my dog (luckily nothing was poisonous) sometimes make dye out of berries and color my hair and face and clothing.
I would spend hours pretending to have a cauldron and cook these things.

Re: Spinoff to childhood posts...Making "concoctions"
My cousin, sister & I made one to get even with our other cousin who was always mean to us. He used to take my sleeping sister, gently carry her out to the pool area & drop her in.
We mixed everything from under the sink, put in some olive oil, crisco mixed in, flour, windex...and put it in the shampoo bottle. Took all of the other shampoos out of the shower & waited...
Our parents weren't even mad at us. They told him to watch who he's messing with because we are very creative.
Now, he's bald, and although that's not the reason, I think he still blames us.

I never did because I have a major aversion to getting my hands dirty. Made a mud pie once and freaked the fk out!

Re: Spinoff to childhood posts...Making "concoctions"
I used to put glitter in jars of water and shake them up, sometimes I'd add shells.
My mom would throw them away, for good reason, and I'd wonder where they went

Re: Spinoff to childhood posts...Making "concoctions"
Always out of stuff I found in the backyard - dirt, berries, leaves, sticks. Ants made wonderful "sprinkles".
I "baked" pies and cakes and cookies.
Thank heavens I grew out of that and started baking the real things.

Re: Spinoff to childhood posts...Making "concoctions"
OMG, the memories - my concoctions were generally made of art supplies though. I remember combining water, crayon shavings, glitter, and some other stuff into some kind of magic potion in ziploc bags.

Re: Spinoff to childhood posts...Making "concoctions"
We made stuff out of food.
We would throw water, egg, flour and bread in a bowl, mix it up and then put it in the over and make....better bread???
This was when we would stay home from school, sick, at the age of 8 or 9, by ourselves. We would always back when we stayed home sick from school. So much seems wrong with that. 8 year olds home all day by themselves, using the oven.

Yessssss
And the main ingredient was ALWAYS Calamine lotion.
When I finished I would wrap it up and write "SECRET FORMULA" on it, lol.
Oh, and I would always get in trouble for standing on the toilet seat (to reach stuff in the medicine cabinet) and breaking it.

And yes, staying home alone and playing with the oven. Your parents would get arrested nowadays if anyone found out.
I too wonder where was my mother, what was she doing to allow to young kids to disappear into the bathroom for such a long time..

Seriously, when I think about it it's like um glad I didn't eat grandma's pills or something, haha. I don't remember ANYTHING being child proofed! I would just lock myself in there for an hour and no one seemed to question it!!!

OMG~I love this thread. I forgot what we were trying to do/make, but my sister, friend and I put crayons in an ashtray and put the ashtray directly on the stove. Yep-It exploded and chunks of glass flew everywhere.

Re: Spinoff to childhood posts...Making "concoctions"
We used to do this too as kids, but it was usually with stuff we found outdoors- leaves, grass, berries, branches, mud.
My sister used to put magic markers in cups of water so the dye would run out & then she'd use it as hair dye for Barbie. My mom didn't like that so much
