Spinoff to Christmas Budget

How much do you spend per DC at Christmas? Do you set a budget and try to stick to it, or not even bother with a budget?

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

We have on DD and we spend about $150. This year we cut back and we spent about $100. Yes, I'm done with my Christmas shopping already (for DD anyway). Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

When it was just DS we didn't budget....just bought him everything we wanted Chat Icon

Last year the babies were a month old so they each got 1 toy and some clothes.

This year, I really want to try and stay on a budget.....we'll see. DH is just as bad as me.

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

We don't really have a budget- or I should really say that I don't have abudget, since I'm the one who does all the shopping. Last year DS was 3 and got a boatload of toys, but a lot of them I had gotten at the Target 75% off sale and then on Black Friday. This year he will probably have fewer boxes, but I will probably wind up spending more because we're going to get him a DS and some games. Along with the other stuff I pick up along the way. Our little one will only be 10months so I'm sure I won't spend too much on him. A couple of new toys, but that's probably it. We still have so many softly used toys from DS #1 that it would be silly to buy him a ton.

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

I am not sure yet. I don't know what they want and I have not started to really shop for everything yet. I have stuff for one night of hanukkah in my closet, but I know I will start shopping in October.

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

I never set budgets for I never end up sticking to them. But, I am in fact a bargin shopper...I will wait for black friday or cyber thursday to get the best deals. Then, i just go by the way things look... Like since this is DSs first Christmas, I know he is going to get spoiled like crazy from all our family. I mean, he was still in my belly last year and he got more gifts then me AND dh combined!! lol. So I'll prolly get like 2 big things, meaning about 50 LOL...and then a few smaller things... going to TRY to not go too crazy...

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

I haven't bothered with a budget yet. At this point she still doesn't get she can actually ask for things, she just knows Santa will bring presents if she's a good girl. Eventually we'll set a budget, just not yet.

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

I have a budget of $1500. That includes my 2 kids. Two sets of grand parents, 6 cousins, teachers, tree, Christmas pics/card and anything else I may have forgotten.

Too much! I try to shop sales but I don't shop early (well not this early) and my kids are spoiled rotten. I can't help myself.

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

DD will be 8.5 months at christmas time so i plan on buying her something sentimental and a few outfits maybe. i know my family will spoil her with toys and more clothes so i am going to take advantage of that!

i can't see spending tons of money on toys or clothes that she will outgrow. so maybe a savings bond or bracelet or something cute, that she will have for a long time and look back knowing that was her 1st christmas present!

Yes...$250 per child but I try my best to come in under (taking advantage of sales) and once I am set I try not to dip back in even if there is something left over.

DS2 is finished right now. TRU had a reat BOGO Free deal on Laugh & Learn toys a month or so ago plus I had started grabbing somethings after Christmas at the Target sale. I came in under budget for him but the number of toys made me stop...way too many!

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Budget

I never set a budget. I just kept buying and buying. I was so embarressed last year after all the gifts were placed under the tree. You would of thought the gifts under the tree was for a family with at least 6 kids. It was not normal and very overwhelming for my kids..mostly my son since he was older. I still have gifts put away from last christmas that he never opened. THIS year I made a promise to myself that I will have a budget.
