No. In addition to the gifts we normally buy, we are also adopting a family for the holidays.
We don't go crazy for the holidays, normally, though.

Yes. DH and I will definitely be cutting back on the amount we spend this year. We will set a budget on how much to spend on our family and a budget on how much to spend on each other.

Yes - I cut back last year, and try to do so even more this year.
DH won't be here to celebrate Christmas (he leaves for Military training in 5 days), so we are just going to take the $$$$ we'd normally spend on each other and save it for
 coming in February.

Yes. I have no choice because I'm throwing my mom a big catered birthday bash on December 20 this year (her birthday is 12/22). There will not be much cash left over for anything else.

We are def. cutting back. We have already discussed it with family and everyone agrees. It is going to be really hard though because DH and I are the types of people who love to get a million gifts for everyone and probably spend way too much but it is different this year and we can't do what we usually do.

Not likely...we do not buy for the adults in the family, only our parents...and then we spend a ton on the kids...I love to give gifts and this year is no different. ANd this wil be DS' first Christmas...and he will be spoiled...rotten!

My spending varies year to year anyway. This is going to be slightly slimmer than last year - but only because Rob is currently laid off from the union so money is a bit tighter than last year.

I just heard on some news channel
47% of people will be spending less
5% will be spending nothing at all
even Wal-mart is gearing up for a bad holiday sales season
BUT you wouldn't guess that if you went to the Mall today- Roosevelt field was PACKED

I have been for the past several years..DH and I think the Christimas season gift giving has been way out of control for years now..for our close family we don't go over $50 each. For each other we usually set approx a $100 limit. There's no need to be so extravagant!

DH and I decided not to get each other anything and just take a weekend trip together to Hershey instead in the winter. And after what we spent on each other last year, it would cost less, and we don't need any more stuff.
I'm cutting back on everyone this year. Last year was my nephew's first Christmas, so DH and I got him so much stuff. This year we can't afford it.

I started to cut back a little last year. I dont think that me and my adult cousins need to exchange gifts anymore (apparently they do  ).
DH and I also agreed in buying 1 nice gift opposed to a bunch of stuff. This year we would like to buy a digital camera.
I also plan on sticking to my holiday budget...I always end up spending more on certain people.

Yes. We have way too much going on right now with buying a house, having a baby and then me not working for 3+ months after having the baby. We definitely plan to cut back a bit on holiday gifts.

I'm so frugal I don't plan to do anything different. I gave up on dropping thousands of dollars on Christmas years ago.
I make things for special friends & relatives, I buy something really nice for my Mom & MIL, I spend a set amount on our nieces, our kids get some clothes & one other thing & money in their bank accounts.
We stopped exchanging with the adults because its silly. Everyone has everything they need.
Last year we adopted 1 family from our church & one from Newsday & I donated gifts to Momma's house.
To me THAT is the spirit of Christmas & I won't cut back my donations in anyway.
agreed.....
the waste and overspending that has become Christmas in America is soooo sad to me. i refuse to get into that. can't wait to bust out my keep christ in Christmas magnet for my car! it's not about the presents!

We cut back last year (I made quilted pillows for everyone) and this year we'll cut back too. I won't make handmade gifts for everyone, but we'll be mindful of spending and try to give creative gifts that don't cost much.

I 100% agree. Christmas is not about who gets what. It makes me sick when people turn it into a selfish and vain holiday.

Yes. We always put limits on gifts, but this year we're going to be strict. We're also going to try to get our families to donate to a needy family instead of buying presents. There's going to be so many more needy families this year...
