Yes, we are scaling back. I've also started buying some gifts so it's not all on one big cc bill.

Definitely cutting back. Plan on only buying for immediate family members.

Probably not -- I only get gifts for a handful of people as it is.

Definitely cutting back on gifts for my DH's family. It has always been out of control for them.

no not really cutting back but we're not that big on gift exchanging anyway, we keep it small scale every year.

yes we are but bc we are starting IVF this month & are self pay. We explained to everyone that we just could not do both. Everyone has been understanding, so we are doing a small christmas. This year is going to be more about family time Chat Icon

i will not be cutting back on the number of gifts i buy... but, i will be trying to get good deals on those gifts. i normally do that anyway, but i will be trying harder to score some good stuff on sale.

With a baby on the way, and me working in the financial industry, I think we will have to. It just wouldn't be smart to splurge on super expensive gifts for people the way we normally do.

I just keep thinking of all the things we already have, and how grateful we should be.

For me, that's what this holiday season will be about.

Yes, I already spoke to a few people who agreed with me on not buying gifts for each other.

I'm not buying anything for my dh and he isn't buying anything for me.

We're just buying gifts for our kids.

As for family, we just have to spend MUCH less this year.

Definately cutting back on everyone and my dh and I cut our budgets for each other less than 1/2.

Probably not. I started shopping very early this year for the ppl I buy the most for... and got toys for my DB & SIL's kids for 75% off!!!Chat IconChat Icon Chat Icon
I usually buy stuff on sale anyway for the most part- and it seems as though a lot of stores are sending out 20-40% off coupons lately....
Plus a lot of our relatives who don't need anything I usually just buy a nice plate and make them cookies as their gift, and cellophane it up into a nice presentation. Chat Icon

I used to buy the children in my family and adults.

This year we are not buying adults, just my parents, and cutting back on how much we spend for family children.

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Gifts - will you be cutting back this year?

Not really. But there are three new babies in our immediate family this year and I don't think I am going to spend a fortune on them. I will probably just buy each of them an outfit. I would rather spend more on them when they are older and can appreciate the gifts.

I'm not cutting back. I get a check from work with all my unused sick time, and I havent used one day yet. I plan on blowing it all on presents while I can afford to do it. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Gifts - will you be cutting back this year?

Probably not. We were never ones to go all out for Christmas gifts. I think we spend reasonably and are always within our budget.

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Gifts - will you be cutting back this year?

Definitely...but not just because of what is going on financially in the world - but also because I'm in a friends wedding and her shower is in January and I have to pay for part of it...ugh...such bad timing.
