Spinoff to Dutch Oven
I have 2 dutch ovens and I want so badly to use them, but I don't know what to cook in them. After reading that so many of you love your dutch ovens and use them all the time, would you mind sharing what you make in them and recipes? Thanks!!!

Re: Spinoff to Dutch Oven
I could be wrong.....but I was under the impression they are useful for slow, long cooking; because of the material it maintains a consistent heating temperature.
So far I've only used it for chili, jambalaya, & soups. I do use a crockpot for set & forget stuff.... but you don't get that same "layering of flavors" that you do with the Dutch oven. Ie sauté onion, garlic, then add something else, & so on, & then simmer.

Re: Spinoff to Dutch Oven
I use mine for basically anything that you could use a big pot for. I mean, they are definitely useful for things that you want to start on the stove and then make in the oven.... like braised short ribs or a pot roast.
But anything you would make in a large pot or saucepan could be made in the dutch oven -- chili, soup, etc. I think they look nice to serve out of as well, if you are having a large gathering.
Last night, I used my 5.5 quart le crueset to make homemade marinara sauce and meatballs on the stove top.
You are not limited to recipes that specifically call for a Dutch oven.

Soups Stews Bread Frittatas Dutch Babies Roasts
Basically anything that I can use a regular pot for. I have a horrible electric stove top; I try to use my oven when I can.

Like a pancake. I like this recipe. I usually make it in my cast iron skillet, but you can do it in a Dutch oven also- might be harder to get out though.

Same here! Seems to give everything a great crust so I love sautéing in there. Awesome of course for stews and braised meats.

Re: Spinoff to Dutch Oven
You should use them! My dutch oven is my favorite pot!
I make meatballs, all soups, stews, bread, risotto (which I know you love to make, make it in the dutch oven). More specifically some of my recent favorite recipes in there are: swedish meatballs, a play on chicken pot pie, tomato soup, chicken scarpariello, pork loin, short ribs, bread and I'm sure there is more

I know, you using your dutch oven all the time is what prompted this! You need to give me some recipes so I can make some stuff. I made risotto in it yesterday!
