Spinoff to Food post

How the heck do I know when to start giving him some table food?

He's already eaten all of the starting baby foods - and now we have moved on to Stage 2 - he will be six months next week.

I am going to start giving him the teething cookies once he turns 6 months - what else can I give him at this time? He has two front teeth.

Also - I just bought a few sippy cups - what do I put in them?

Is there anything else I should be doing now? Maybe my ped will tell me next week but I'm not sure.

Just put some food in front of him and see what he does. If he doesn't take to it, try again in a few more days.

I was giving my son rice cakes and cucumber slices (for teething) at about 6 months, he just played with it, but he learned quickly enough.

Ok - and when does that three day rule end? Let's say once I start giving him bread - oh - and putting fruit in the fruit thingie (no clue what it's called) - do I need to do that for three days to make sure he's not allergic?

Can I start that fruit thingie now? Chat Icon

OH I don't know nothing about no three day rule, I don't follow doctors advice, I always have just done what I felt was fine and my kid is still alive! I hated the fruit net thingy, just give the kid some banana slices or something...and just give him something like breadsticks, or rice cakes.

Someone else who is less laid back should probably advise you!

Re: Spinoff to Food post

I've been wondering the same thing.

I gave Logan a puff the other day and you would have thought it was poison by the faces he made.

But then yesterday he ate one himself.

So the whole food thing is one giant mystery to me!!

Re: Spinoff to Food post

Diana - this was the topic in Gymboree on Wednesday!!

OK Jack is a bit ahead of schedule right? But he can sit up? I think you can give him those puffs, and baby yogurt (YoBaby - Alex LOVEES this) - and the stage 2 meats like Chicken with vegetable, etc. I mix cereal in with all of this stuff - to give it more substance and so it isn't so messy and drippy when she is eating.

In the sippy cup I put a little Gerber juice and a lot of water. Alex can't get the hang of it yet tho, she gnaws on the spout and then spills it all over. But I digress...

In the mesh thing I put frozen apple slices (no peel) and frozen grapes - since she had these food already I don't bother with the 3 day rule. Actually I never did to be honest....

And my ped recommended frozen bagels for teething.

Re: Spinoff to Food post

Here are some ideas .

DS grabbed a peice of bannana from me and I let him put it in his mouth- that's how I started. I also cubed some streamed sweet potatoe peices that were big enough for him to handle. My Dr also said I could give him stuff in one of those mesh feeders to start off.

Re: Spinoff to Food post

at first I tried juice/water in the sippy but she didn't like it- i started putting her formula in it- after all that is what she is used to drinking...

as for solids- at that age I did puffs, teething biscuits, and little pieces of soft steamed carrots, etc.
