Spinoff to getting out when EBF--nursing cover question

Do you really use your nursing cover a lot?

I never used one with DS #1, but now that I have a toddler, I am sure i will have to BF out more. I am debating between a cover or this clip thing I found on etsy that you just clip to a receiving blanket.

Never used it with Ryan - I always hid in a room and I knew that wasn't an option with Colin.

But, the only time I use it is at my ILs house - there I'm comfortable managing Colin under it.

I've tried it in public a few times - I'm just terrible at it. I usually bring pumped milk and then pump when I get home if I'm out.

I used my nursing cover a lot with DS once I got the courage to nurse in public (when he was about 3 months old). I saw the clip thing and really that just seemed like a hassle to me to fit it right, plus a lot of nursing covers have a stuff U shaped part by the neck that allows you to see down to the baby.

#1 never let me put anything on over his head...

but with this one since i am going to be out so much, i got one...its coming to hospital with me and being used from day one.

i have huge nursing boobs...if i am going to be out all the time with this one, things have to change.

nope, just a receiving blanket or whatever I happened to have, I usually wore nursing tanks when I was out to make it even easier. But I also don't care if people happen to see anything so sometimes I used nothing if I didn't have anything and he was screaming his head off.

Re: Spinoff to getting out when EBF--nursing cover question

I used my nursing cover a lot-- but, I live in a community where the majority of moms are breastfeeding... so, when we would all be at the park, or even meeting for lunch.. EVERYONE had their nursing covers on. That made me more comfortable to use it when I wasn't with a bunch of other new moms since I was used to it already.

Wow, this seems to be on everyone's mind today! Chat Icon
With that said... I used my nursing cover just about daily with DS2! When you are out and about with DS1, the baby will have to eat. It is generally not convenient to bring DS1 into a private place to nurse the baby. I would say, get both! This way you will still have one if one gets dirty Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to getting out when EBF--nursing cover question

I only nursed DS for 3 months, I always brought a bottle for when we were out, bc cover or not, I wasnt comfortable nursing in public.

However, I used it all the time at home if we had company, or at my ILs or at friends.

Same here. When I was on maternity leave, I went out with DS and other moms at least once per week. Then, once I went back to work, DH and I took DS out a lot on the weekends. I BF in public all the time.

I used it a lot up till Talia started to notice it and would get so distracted while eating I couldnt use it anymore. Only time it worked was if she was starving.

I've been using mine pretty often when we go out. Sometimes I try to just pump and bring a bottle with me, but if the timing isn't right for that... I use my nursing cover and I love it. I like the U-shape because I can still make eye contact with the baby while he's eating, and I can make sure he is latched on properly

Re: Spinoff to getting out when EBF--nursing cover question

I never used one with Charlotte. I think I used a receiving blanket twice and then used a cloth diaper for a little while. The majority of the time I didn't use anything.

Re: Spinoff to getting out when EBF--nursing cover question

Both my kids were EBF and I never had a nursing cover. Most of the time, if I had to cover up, i just used a regular baby blanket or my own cardigan.
