Spinoff to leaving a child in the car...moms w/ 2
how do you load up the car w/ the kids? i put jack in first then run back into my house to get Tyler.
I live on a pretty dead end street - the end of a no-outlet so maybe 10 cars a day come down here.
should i be doing something different? I really need two hands to carry out the carseat so doing them both at the same time won't work - and if i don't hold jack's hand he WILL make a run for it.

I used to carry Andy in the carseat with one harnd and hold Sarah's hand with the other if it was icy. Put his seat on the ground next to me, get her in car, then put him in. But she wasn't a runner so I didn't have to worry about that.

I only have 1 DC, but when I am carrying a lot of bags, I usually will put all my bags outside on the front steps (keeping the door open so i can watch DS), then quickly grab him and lock up. Maybe you can put the infant carrier on the front steps, quickly strap in your older DC and then grab the baby. This way they are always in your site??

This is what I did too or I would do what you are currently doing. Once you get use to it, it won't seem so bad.

I've been going with both boys together. Logan will jump in and I'll buckle him up later, while I put Landon into the car seat base.

I think the way you are doing it is fine if it's what works best. I did something similar when my kids were smaller and my block is busier. I had a runner too when my DD was a baby and DS #1 was 2. In fact I still couldn't trust him when he was 3 1/2, DD was 2 and DS #2 was a newborn. I give props to anyone trying to wrangle a newborn in an infant carseat and a toddler. I don't know if that's the safest way to do it either, it depends on how your house is set up. I know my front door and and railings would make it very hard to get everyone out at the same time without tripping or losing balance.

It's a PIA either way We have an alarm and have 45 seconds to get out. It seems like a lot of time but when you are trying to get a 2 1/2 yr. old and infant in a car seat out the door, it's not that quick.

me too! Now I just carry the baby, and my oldest walks...or they both walk and hold my hand....
When I am at the store, I will go to the babies door (hes really not a baby anymore ) and I will have my oldest climb through to his side because I don't want to leave one in the cart.

This is what I do. Bry holds my one hand and I carry the carrier with the other. Put the carrier on ground, next to me, buckle bry in and then walk DD around to put her in base.

I do this too!!
BUT - If for some reason I have to carry both out - I have my younger in the carseat ready to go rt inside the front door...go carry my older (DD) get her set up in her carseat and then run back to the door and bring my younger (DS) outside to the car!
Not looking fwd to when they are both in front facing carseats..that will be a whole different routine im sure!

They both come out with me. Lola is in her snugride and I put her in first. Bella is really good when she's outside, stays near me, or waits on the grass by the car for me to put her in.
After Lola's loaded...in goes Bella.
When we come home...Bella is out 1st and she always runs up to the porch to ring the doorbell (she likes to hear Peanut, our dog, go crazy barking) and then I'll get Lola out in the snugride.

I do keep Tyler right in his carseat at the front door - it's maybe 6 steps from the door to the car.
I have tried to have Jack not hold my hand and he has made a run for it, which did not end pretty, so until he's ready I can't do that.

They both come out. DD is a little older so she's pretty good about staying right next to me even when I can't hold her hand.

They both come out with me. Sometimes I will put Kaitee in car and tell her to climb in her seat, then buckle Brooke in then buckle Kaitee in. At home in my own drive way I make Kaitee stand next to me while I buckle Brooke in then I put Kaitee in.
When Brooke was in the infant seat I snapped her in while Kaitee stood next to me and then put Kaitee in.

Re: Spinoff to leaving a child in the car...moms w/ 2
I know this is so hard... & then sometimes you have to go back in the house to lock up.
In the beginning I had the car in the garage which is attached and put them both in the car.
Then I started getting better at it and would take them one hand for carrier and one hand to hold dc's hand.
You sound like you having it down though.
