I think it is wierd too...miki is in the 90th percentile for both height and weight but still wears mostly 18 month clothes....Chat Icon

Nah - every child is different plus we all tend to prefer different brands...that makes a difference in the sizing depending how each brand runs.

So long as our doctors are not concerned about our children's weight they are fine. I sometimes worry that Lucas is too lean but his doc says he's 75th percentile and very happy with it...so now I am just plain old jealous of his metabolism Chat Icon

I think like Ang said - it also depends on the brand. I know that anything I buy from Denny's has to be a size bigger than his normal size.

But, I was shocked when I read the sizes that Cailen is in. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Kaila is 2 and a half and she's wearing 4T. She never ran true to size by age ever.

I can fully understand where you are coming from. DS came home from the hospital in 6-9 month clothes. I don't know if he'll ever be 'true to size'.

Cailin looks much smaller than my son. I can't believe he is wearing 3t/4t~

Ant is wearing 3t tops and 3t bottoms. He will be 2 in September and weighs 34 pounds and is 35 inches...

ETA: I agree that is depends on the brand of clothes. I buy bigger sizes at Denny's because they tend to run small

Kerri is in the 90th percentile for height and 75th for weight and has always been true to size....some babies must be off the charts with height and weight

I don't think it's just weight and heigth.

All kids are different and wear their weight differently. Different body types, etc...

So for the same heigth and weight, 2 kids could be wearing different sizes.

Re: spinoff to my clothing size post....

My Noah IS small for his age - but with him it also has to do with the way he likes things to fit. He will NOT wear clothes that are even a LITTLE too big on him. He prefers things to be slightly snug. My girlfriend's son is only a hair smaller than Noah - but he wears a bigger size than my kid because her kid has no problem wearing clothing that is a little longer or a little looser than Noah prefers.

Robbie is more difficult to size because he is tall and skinny. So I will sometimes stick him in a size 7 to accomodate that tiny waist - even though an 8 would work out with an adjustable waist.

I have the same issue. At almost 16 months, DSs summer clothes are 12 mo shirts and 6-9 month shorts. One baithing suit and another outfit are 3-6 month clothes he got last year that were waaayyy to big on him. He's also wearing a bunch of stuff that's 6-9 months in brands that run a littile bigger that were swimming on him last year. With shorts, we can get away with the skinny waist and no length. In the fall, I'm gonna have trouble with pants cause he needs 12-18 months length, but the top is huge! I got the ones with the elastic band, but there's so much material bunched up there, it looks uncomfortable.

DS is 25% height and 10% weight.

I have the same situation with DS. He is 5% for weight and 75% for height. He has always been true to size though. At almost 15 months, he is wearing 12-18 months, but everything is too big in the waist for him!

I completely agree but I was surprised that Cailin was wearing 3t&4t. My DS happens to be lean and has no belly at all. This morning he is actually wearing 18M shorts from TCP and he has some room in them.

I think the manufactures need to make a short and tall version of all the sizes. DS always needs a bigger size due to length and DD is the same way.

Not sure why it is shocking?

My ds is on the big side but most of the DC I see his age are either their normal size or smaller actual. Most people think my ds is much older than he is.

So I have to disagree and say that it certainly isn't shocking that DC wears their age

Re: spinoff to my clothing size post....

Logan ran really big for a while, but once he got active he leveled off.

He's been in 12-18 month clothes since December. They were a little big then, but smaller sizes wouldn't fit.

He's just getting a little snug in some of the shorts and shirts now.

We'll be moving to true 18 month stuff by fall, but that puts him back at true to size.

Cailen doesn't look much bigger to me. Chat Icon

Maybe the camera is taking 10 pounds OFF him. Chat Icon

Re: spinoff to my clothing size post....

It's so true....all kids carry their weight different. And a lot of brand/designers sizing run differently. DS wears 18months in Carters but 2T in LuckyJeans.

Also, i depends on how you dress him. My DS wears 18mths and they are a little big on him (he is 16 months). I tend to put him in clothes (especially shirts) that are not too big for him. My nephew who is 10 months also wears 18 months, but they are pretty big on him--but he needs it in the waist. His shorts are long on him and his shirts are a little big.

No matter what size they wear, all these kiddies look adorable!! And if your dr. isn't worried about his size then I wouldn't give it a second thought!!

Totally depends on the brand. My son was always in the 95%+ percentiles and he was usually only a size bigger than his age (like at age 3 he wore 4T and now at age 4 he's wearing size 5T or 5/6).

I do know that when he gets hand-me-downs or we get clothes from Children's Place, he can wear much bigger sizes because the clothes run small.

We're the opposite. DD is almost 3 and still in just about all 2T and for summer things like shorts or dresses she can get away with some that are 12 or 18 months (I just pretend they don't fit so I can buy new clothes Chat Icon )

It depends on the brand and also if you like his clothes looking a little big on him, I always order Julia's sweatshirts in a larger size they just look more comfy on her.

DD is 19 months and wears mostly 12-18 and some 18-24. Its difficult because she has a small waist and long legs so this fall will be difficult. She is very petite.

It makes sense that most kids would be true to size because if a child is in the 95th percentile then he/she would be bigger than 95% of the kids their age.

Re: spinoff to my clothing size post....

I was glad to see that thread and see that there are other small babies like mine. People are very proud when their babies grow and grow but I needed to hear from those whose babies make moderate progress. It may be weird to some but it's a fact of life for me. Our pediatrician does want Dylan to beef up. We are following a plan for that. I'm certainly feeding my baby. He's adorable anyway! Chat Icon
