Re: Spinoff to newborns and public
I think that as long as it is not snowy, icy, rainy or one of those deep arctic freezes we get every once in a while, it should be perfectly fine to bundle up both mommy and baby to go for a winter walk.

Re: Spinoff to newborns and public
The one thing I don't like about having a winter baby is that I'll probably be stuck inside for a majority of the first few months. I thought about taking trips to the mall during the week when there will be fewer people, but I'm a little concerned about germs and taking such a young baby out in the winter. As far as walks, the winters are pretty cold in CT. Unless it's unseasonably warm, I'll probably wait a few months to take walks outside.

Re: Spinoff to newborns and public
We just talked to our pediatrician about this - she said you can take the baby out for a walk as long as it is above zero degrees! I questioned her on this, I thought I mis-heard her, and she said it was actually good for the baby, just make sure s/he is bundled up. i still think I'll wait until the temps are a little higher, maybe 20 degrees.
She also said to stay away from Malls and any place with re-circulated air.

Re: Spinoff to newborns and public
DS was born12/20, we took him everywhere. We brought purell to our families homes so that we could limit the germs. We made everyone wash before holding him and we didnt go if we knew someone was sick at that house.
I took him to the mall by 4/5 weeks, he went wherever I wanted to go.
At the same time the weather isnt great, so I found it nice that I didnt have to go out when it was freezing, etc. And if I got stir crazy I went to my ILs for a break.
I agree the bundle me is the best invention! And at that age the baby sleeps alot so its not that hard. Just bring your bottle, a clean change of clothes and you are mobile!
ETA: at DS 2 week appt, ped told us go wherever we wnated just to limit our interatction with sick people!
PS ds is 8 months old and just got his first case of the sniffles, and I think its more teething related than cold!

Re: Spinoff to newborns and public
I'm sure I will be indoors a lot, (I'm due Nov. 29th) but once the spring comes I'll be out all the time! Hopefully it's a mild winter and I'll be able to go on walks around the neighborhood during the day. Our families live close so I'll be visiting them with the baby too

I went to the mall ALL THE TIME! I hated being in the house. Once it got a little nicer out I bundled him up and went for walks.

Re: Spinoff to newborns and public
I am due early December and for the Holidays and such I will be home. I am a home body anyway so its not a big deal to me. Its flu season and all and I would like to keep him as healthy as I can, for as long as I can :)

pickles,
cmon...i think we both know why you want the "okay" to go to the mall hehehe I know I was very distraught when my mom made the point about germs...I don't want to turn my princess ala michael jackson's kids with the masks g-d forbid, so I'll just have to figure out something else. I want to teach her how to shop young

Re: Spinoff to newborns and public
DS was born in November and by December I had to get out of the house. I would go shopping early in the morning and either put DS in a carier or put a receiving blanket over his carseat if I was using the Snap'n'Go to keep germs/people away.
