Spinoff to not enough hours in day..activities?
I am in the mindset that each child (for now) can each have 2 activities. Right now, DD & DS are in tae kwon doe and in the same class. DD is also in dance once a week. In the spring DS will be doing soccer. I am a SAHM but I also have a 6 month old. DH seems to think the kids should be in all these activities and I do not agree with it. 1.) I do not want to spend my time in a car all afternoon 2.) when do the kids get to be kids.
So anyone else with a DH that isn't on the same page as them when it comes to activities.

Re: Spinoff to not enough hours in day..activities?
DW and I agree with the amount of stuff our DC are doing.
DS - soccer 2x a week karate - 2 days a week track - 2 days a week, plus meets Cub Scouts - 2/3 times a month
DD - soccer 2x a week We're looking into Brownies for her
We make sure that there are a couple of days a week where nothing at all is scheduled. I like letting kids be kids, but most of the time, if left to their own devices, kids play video games, so we like keeping them active and in social activities when we can.

Re: Spinoff to not enough hours in day..activities?
I feel like my life is spinning out of control this fall with all the running around! My DH really pushed for K to join the soccer team and wanted me to put her in the art club again this year...but I had to say no to that one.
As it stands now we have: Monday: K-Daisies Tuesday: A-art club Wednesday: free Thursday: K-soccer practice Friday: free Saturday: K-soccer game; K and A dance class Sunday: K-soccer game; K and A swimming
K's art club would have been on Friday right after school until 4pm. I have that same schedule on Mondays and Tuesdays...so for me it's drag the baby to get one sister, then drag the baby and that sister back at 4--meanwhile baby should be napping.
As for the soccer, we did compromise. He agreed to take her to all games if I'd take her to the practices. He also basically takes them back and forth to dance all morning on Saturday. Thank God, soccer and swimming end on 10/30. Can your DH pitch in like that?
It's nuts though...ALL the moms I talk to (including C...lol) say that we never did anything after school as kids. Sometimes I think we're raising a generation of kids that can't function without constant stimulation, but I digress...

Re: Spinoff to not enough hours in day..activities?
We have a toddler who is actively enrolled in many activities during the regular day. DH is a SAHD so he takes her to these things:
Mon: dance Tues: preschool Wed: My Gym class Thur: preschool Fri: My Gym open play
My DD who is enrolled in full time Kindergarten though only has dance after school on Mondays. It's enough for her. She is so tired after her school day and then there's homework to do---not that it's a lot of HW but she has some every day.

I think I wouldn't care if the baby wasn't in the mix. I feel bad because she either gets waken up from a nap or doesn't get to nap and it isn't fair to her. I know C tells me too when I vent..lol Another issue I think is DS is in half day kindergarten and in the afternoon. If it was morning I would have no issue with anything after school, but he gets picked up at 12:50 and dropped off at 4. By the time he gets home unwinds, has a snack it is 4:30/4:45 and then I have him do his homework. I *think* in 2 years when both older ones are in school full time it will be a lot easier. My middle one goes 3 full days to pre-k but I can only do an errand or 2 from the time I drop her off to be home in time to feed the older one lunch so he can get on the bus. Next year the older one will be home by 3:15.

Re: Spinoff to not enough hours in day..activities?
I am a sahm as well. Dh and I are on the same page and agree no more then one activity. Ds is 16 months goes to mygym, and my 3 yo has nursery school. We don't want to overschedule them . Dh and I love our downtime and won't spend it shuttling 2 boys around for activities. Weekends are reserved as family days , either we take then out, go visit inlaws, or my parents (and all of my nephews). I wanted to put ds in taekwon do but will wait till 4.
