Spinoff to rec. ob/gyn - (poll too!)
I know I can't be the only one here who uses a midwife....am I?
I included other although I don't know of any other options there always seems to be an other out there in the crowd.
Edited to add: I started out using a regular gyno but when DH and I started discussing TTC we felt what we wanted most from our experience during pregnancy/childbirth we would only obtain from a midwife. Hence why I switched.

There is nothing wrong with a midwife but you need to realize that if you have "high risk" or any other complication while PG, you will need an OB.

Re: Spinoff to rec. ob/gyn - (poll too!)
I WANT to use an OBGYN - But I need to find one in Nassau or NYC before TTC - My Dr. right now is just a GYN -
I would want an OBGYN probably for teh opposite reasons why others want a midwife - It's a personal preference

I used a midwife for the delivery of all 3 of my children and regular gyno care. They are wonderful! Of course I had 3 easy uncomplicated pregnancies. If I had any issues I would have gone to an obgyn(who they are in practice with anyway.)

Point well taken. My midwife is a CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) which also entails her being in affiliation with OBs.

If you use a midwife, do you have to do everything naturally, like no drugs or pain medication? If something goes wrong during delivery, is the midwife affiliated with a Medical Dr. that she can call immediately?
Yes to both. With a midwife you do not receive any form of drugs during labor (unless absolutely necessary) and as long as they are a CNM (certified nurse midwife) they are affiliated with a OB.

I personally love my midwife. She is the second one I've had. The first was really nice but I just didn't "connect" with her.
I found both midwives through my regular insurance book where I would find any doctor. There is a Midwifery section.
Or, you can click here to try to find one in your area.
ETA: feel free to FM if you want my midwifes info.

Midwife for your annual visits? Like your pap smears? I go to an OBGYN.

Absolutely! And before I was TTC she prescribed my BCP for me too.
CNMs (as I explained above) were originally RN's who decide to return back to school for midwifery. This is a general explanation but you get the point.
They are able to do anything an OB/GYN can do (pap smears, exams, take blood, write prescriptions etc).
