Spinoff to Registry Question-What things are really unnecessary?
We are not registering for another 5 weeks or so, but I am trying to plan ahead because I love being organized and I love shopping
I know DH is a real PITA when it comes to registries because he thinks I am going to go insane and register for a bunch of things we don't need.
So with this in mind, what are some things that are really discretionary and what are completely unnecessary? I know that we don't want to register for that much in the way of clothing because I really would prefer (as much as I love baby clothes) to make sure I have the necessities and not a million little outfits that DC will outgrow in a month!

The baby lounger! You can use a regular pillow and maybe the boppy, but even for breastfeeding you could probably use a pillow too and not the boppy either, although some people swear by this. I'm gonna try to get away without using it. If I feel I need to, I'll get one after the babys born but I think I'll be ok.

Re: Spinoff to Registry Question-What things are really unnecessary?
for apt living, we nixed the pack and play.
if the kid is going down, it's gonna be in the crib.
we nixed the regular swing in favor of a "travel" swing that sits table top.
you can also check out this high chair (I registered for it for my house)
we did one crib and one dresser and ordering a changing pad to put on top. no changing table or armoire for this lil tyke.
Nan, if you want to see my registeries, let me know! I think they are pretty minimalist.
things I would DEFINITELY GET
stroller crib car seat monitor some kind of seated toy (swing, bouncy) bath tub bath supplies feeding supplies (I did a few different kinds of bottles and a breast pump) mattress crib sheets blankets first aid stuff (thermometer, care kit etc)
I didn't do too much room decor or a full on bedding "set" I just got a bunch of sheets and blankets that matched the color scheme.

to me, from a BTDT mommy perspective, the items that you do not need to register for are
clothing (people WILL buy you clothing, not matter what)
Toys (same as above, people will buy small toys, rattles, etc)
Sippy cups, plates, spoons, etc (don't need them for months after birth)

agree on clothes. I got so much when he was born.
everyone gets you bathrobes, towels, wash clothes, blankets...
no changing table no bassinet
I am a pack and play person because we traveled often and it was great to have on the beach.
I would say bedding, but I am a REAL killjoy

Re: Spinoff to Registry Question-What things are really unnecessary?
We never bothered with a bottle warmer. Whenever I needed to heat up BM/Formula, I just used a mug of warm water. It worked just as well and one less thing taking up space in the house. Also, we had DS drinking his milk chilled by around 6 months so heating it up never became an issue.

Re: Spinoff to Registry Question-What things are really unnecessary?
Unnecessary:
Bedding...babies can't even use the quilt and shouldn't use the bumpers...
Wipe Warmer...totally unecessary
Changing Table...just using dresser w/contour pad
toys and clothes..same as previous posters...
bassinet: waste..only use this for 1-2 months

Re: Spinoff to Registry Question-What things are really unnecessary?
Since we are getting a pack and play-that should work and we don't need a bassinet, right?
We need the pack and play because we will be traveling and staying with friends and family with DC and not everyone has a crib. This is DH's request because I didn't think it was that necessary.

They have the pnp with the bassinet, but I believe they can only be used up until 15lbs....

Can the baby go in the regular pnp part to sleep after they outgrow the bassinet part?

Re: Spinoff to Registry Question-What things are really unnecessary?
as a BTDT mom: specialized baby furniture- changer, hutch, etc... I have good furniture made- dresser & high boy to grow w the kid and put a pad on the dresser and setup a changing station that way.
pack & play- never used it w/ DD though I do have one at my mom's- but we never used that either. Big fan of blanket on the floor w/ the kid.
Bottle warmer
tons of outfits... (rather have tons of bibs and burp cloths)
infant shoes- really, huge waste

Yes though DS wouldn't sleep in either part.
