spinoff to scars... have you had scars fade significantly over time?
I have a horrible scar on my left hand from an accident at an amusement park when I was a child. It spans from the middle of my wrist, all the way halfway up the side of my thumb.
I never did anything to do it as a kid to get it to fade. It was pink for many, many years. In the past couple of years (20 years or so later), the scar has started to fade considerably. It's now whiteish and barely noticeable.
Will it continue to fade?
I have another scar on my leg from high school. It's gotten a little paler over the years, but is still noticeable. I've noticed the scar on my hand fading considerably faster in the past couple of years... It is age or just the time that has passed?

Yes, I have a huge scar on my knee that got sunburned pretty soon after I had the stitches out the summer of 1991. (Yes, I'm the teenage moron who thought she knew more than the doctor.)
I'm pasty white and it was very obvious for at least 10 years and then it started to fade. Now it's completely faded and you can't really see it unless you know to look for it.

Yes. I had a bad accident when I was 12. I decided it would be fun to take a brick out of the concrete in the garden in front of my parent's house.
I split my forehead open and fractured my skull. I had 80 stitches in my forehead done by a plastic surgeon.
I was so upset that I had scarred myself for life. It was pink for a year or two and then slowly started to fade. To look at me now, you wouldn't even see it. I've had to actually point it out to people.
This happened 18 years ago.

Yes, I had over a thousand stitches in my face (on my chin) from an accident I had in my sophmore year of HS and by now (I'm 31) it's a pretty faint line.
Granted, I had a plastic surgeon do the work (he just happened to be on when I was brought into the ER) but nonetheless I had a lot of stitches in my face.

I used to work at All American and got several bad oil burns from them. They faded after time.

No. But I'm a keloid healer.
I had surgery on my left ankle when I was 12 and 16 years later it still looks crappy. The doctor didn't listen to my parents when he was told that I may be keloid and it looked like it was done by a drunk clown
A year later I had to have a cyst removed from above my eye and a plastic surgeon did that one and there is no scar at all. He did like 30 tiny stitches.

Really? I have never even noticed!
Awesome job by the plastic surgeon!

yep! busted my lip open twice as a toddler and had both stitched up and you can't see them at all, not to mention all of the other major cuts from childhood and now even some kitchen accidents from just a few years ago are so faint you can barely see them! There's hope!

My original scar on my elbow when they removed the shattered end of one of my bones is pretty much gone. I even have freckles on the scar, so it really blends in with the surrounding skin.

Wow, it's so weird to think that you can barely see this scar which has been such a big part of me for so long. Not that I'm complaining - it's just weird that it's faded so much. People used to ask me all the time what it was from -- now even when I point to it, people can hardly see it!
I didn't have stiches in this one, though. There was literally no skin left to stitch.

I have a huge scar on my chest from open heart sugery. I had the surgery when I was one (30 now). It definitely has faded in time. It does stand out more when I am sunburned.
