Spinoff to school zones - Stop signs
Do you come to a complete stop at every stop sign you come to?
I live on a residential street with a stop sign in the middle of the block and I am APPALLED at the number of people who don't even pretend to TAP their brakes when they come to the stop sign.
To answer my own question, yes, I do come to a complete stop at every stop sign.

Depending on where I am, and what time it is, I do or dont. Main roads, yes. Around by my house late at night, not so much. Is it wrong, yes. But at 11pm, in my hood its damn near vacant, so I dont stop al the way. I do what they call a hollywood stop. During the day I stop, completely.

I do not come to a full and complete, textbook, drivers ed stop at EVERY stop sign. It depends on the neighborhood and time of day.

Re: Spinoff to school zones - Stop signs
YES!!!!! People fly through the stop signs in my neighborhoods (work, my own, mom's).
I tend to drive rather slowly through residential areas though. I wasn't always this cautious. Must be my old age now.

Re: Spinoff to school zones - Stop signs
It depends. I slow down enough so if I HAVE to come to a complete stop I can. However, if no one is coming, I dont stop fully. Not the right answer but truthful

I do at corners, but in my parents' development no. We also have a stop sign in the middle of the block & in the am I'll just slow down & tap my brakes.

Yes I do always in residential/school areas. I do admit, I blew one this morning at the Ronkonkoma train station parking lot.
There is a stop sign on our block.....8 out of 10 people BLOW RIGHT THROUGH IT and it pissses me off.

Yes, and I notice that in Queens, they appear to be optional!

Re: Spinoff to school zones - Stop signs
I am the 2nd house before the stop sign on our block, and I swear, so many people race down our street and do not even stop.
I've actually had a lady curse me out, give me the finger and then speed around me, because I backed out of my driveway, then made a full stop at the sign, and she was pi$$ed that she had to "wait for me".
It was probably stirring the pot, but I yelled back at her that I live here, so tough, she needs to wait and obey the traffic laws.
A lot of times, I will purposely sit a second or two longer when I am backing out and people are racing down the block.
DH has had this happen to him too, where he's backing out and people blow the stop sign and get pi$$ed they have to wait.
I called the town the same day I had the issues with the lady above, and they were supposed to send a patrol car to sit near my intersection, but I have yet to see it happen.
It's only going to get worse since summer is coming, and we are one of the streets down to Tanner Park.
This is part of the reason I started my thread the other day about wanting to get more involved with the community. I see so much road rage on residential streets and it's only a matter of time before something bad happens.

Re: Spinoff to school zones - Stop signs
As a runner on the roads a lot...I stop at every single stop sign for a full stop. I can't tell you how many times I have almost been hit, b/c people can fully stop...and the worst is the people that only slow down - not even a rolling stop. If I see someone when I'm running, I definitely point it out to them. DH doesn't like that, b/c I've gotten some wackos who yell back at me
So, as a good example, I stop at every sign. I had someone pass me and give me the finger in my neighborhood for coming to a full stop. Which is silly, since they live down the road from me

Re: Spinoff to school zones - Stop signs
most stop signs yes, full stop. There is 1 by my house where I almost stop, but then roll through because you can clearly see all directions that nobody is coming. Legal, no... Honest, yes.
This reminds me of Cher is Clueless.. "I totally paused!"

Yep - I stop. Not for 2 full seconds, but I do stop! I HATE when people don't stop. It's crazy to me!

yes I stop.
and I am SICK of the people who don't stop... I've seen so many people not even stop when I've already stopped and am proceeding forward.

I feel the same way. I am convinced I am going to get killed on the corner of my block - it's a 4 way stop. This seems to mean that no one really has to stop because the other driver will.
I can't count how many times I had to stop on the yellow lines with cars passing me on both sides because they couldn't wait the 5 seconds it takes me to cross the street. They should AT LEAST let me clear their side of the road before rolling up to me while I am walking.
Every once in a while cops will stake out that corner. They will pull someone over, write the ticket, go back to their original spot and immediately pull over someone else. I wish there were cops there more frequently...it would be a great stream of income for the city and it would be safer for the everyone on the road.
